Heads or Tails, Wall Street Wins: Saving Our Pensions From The Casino

Excerpt:
"Consider New York City. Its five pension funds held $326.3 billion as of June 30, 2026. The city pays about $10 billion a year into them, even as it struggles to close a projected $5.4 billion budget deficit. What does the city get for its money? In 2015, then-Comptroller Scott Stringer examined ten years of results from the asset managers running the city’s pension funds. Managers of public stocks and bonds had beaten their benchmarks (the returns the same money would have earned in a standard market index such as the S&P 500) by $2.063 billion. But that was before deducting the managers’ fees. The fees consumed more than 95% of the gain, leaving the funds only an estimated $40 million ahead. Managers of the funds’ private investments (stakes in assets not traded on public exchanges, such as private equity and real estate funds) fell $2.6 billion short of their benchmarks after fees. Overall, the outside managers fell more than $2.5 billion dollars short of benchmark returns over the ten year period. The pension funds would have done better in plain index funds. “Right now, heads or tails, Wall Street wins,” Stringer said.

Stringer’s study was cited by Scott Baker, managing editor at OpEdNews and a Public Banking Institute expert on pension funds, in a November 2025 article titled “The Case for Selling off the New York City Pension Funds.” Baker asks, “Why do we need pension funds at all?” More on his answer after a look at pension fund financing as it has evolved over the last half-century."

It should be IMPOSSIBLE that the fees eclipse the profits by LAW.

And, if they don't out produce their benchmarks but the indexes do. There should be a reduction in their fees.

But why not just setup a system the FRONT-ENDS all of Pelosi's trades before Pelosi can make hers?

I guess these people aren't going to get Trump's $5000. On this issue, may there be a plague on both sides.

Hopefully, we'll each get our $5,000 cut. And why?
At least we will know where that much of our money went.
For example, I buy all my gasoline with my only credit card with a $500 monthly limit. I pay it off each month.
I do have one whole debit card used for groceries and other odd stuff. Checks are used for tax-deductible donations.

It sounds like the problem is bad money management. It's not that the "casino" or stock market is unfair. It's that corrupt cronies mismanaged the money. The answer appears to be to use better Wall Street services, such as index funds. That's "the casino" too.

It's naïve to assume there is no corruption hidden by the firms that manage the index funds.
Wall St, like Vegas, exists to clip the suckers (aka investors) and laws written to prevent it are
written with advice (collusion) from Wall St, assuring that the unethical theft continues unabated.
I only wish that Wall St was only a bunch of bookies taking transaction fees.

Well, then I am glad to be sucker, since Wall Street and my savings habit have made me very financially comfortable.

A real casino has negative sum returns. You should expect on average to lose money there.

The stock market, whatever its flaws, has positive sum returns. You should expect to gain money there.
