My thoughts are the US Democrat party has gone Anti-American Marxist enough where, being a part of a global Marxist rule (from Beijing?) is the goal, it would be very likely to throw Alberta under Ottawa's left wing bus rather than let it break away. Trumpers, who are mostly from what's left of Free America, would be helpful in Alberta's bid for freedom. The American left will hate that almost as much as they hate the Russians bid to trashcan communism.
They would definitely need a friendly trading partner since they have no coastline and need a way to transport goods safely in and out. They aren't in an ideal location for that reason. As you mentioned, dealing with the current US administration would be much easier than with a leftist bunch of parasites like most of the US con-gress and the federal bureaucracy. If the swamp regains more control it could result in an agreement between Alberta and some conservative states wishing to exit the bankrupt US empire.
Ha, I didn't see your post before I posted mine, but not joining another bankrupt empire certainly should be considered. We definitely agree on the independence part. You have a point as Albertans want to escape "spread the wealth" Ottawa plans, but maybe shouldn't get in bed with DC "spread the wealth" plans.
IMO, the people of Alberta, which is essentially Canada's Texas, should follow the playbook of Texas and become it's own free country first. They should immediately make a military alliance with the US in case Ottawa gets dirty thoughts and pulls a Lincoln. Then, after they consolidate their own identity, consider becoming a US state. This interim time would give them the opportunity to convert from a Canadian provincial government to a US state type government with minimal disruption should US statehood be the ultimate goal.
Time is of the essence, however, because becoming a free country or a US state when the US is under "Trump-like" (Vance?) governance would be preferable to a left wing Democrat governance. Albertans in general don't seem to be very Marxist at this time.
The process will be complex and take time to iron out the details.
Strikes me dino that the freedom hungry people of kicked around Alberta are objectively being driven by hard economics. Not the libtarded la la land socialist hogwash we keep hearing south of their border.
