John Galt return address

I just got an ad for a mail order steak company, and thought it must be a joke of some sort. The address was John Galt Blvd, Omaha NE!

So I looked it up, and yep, Omaha does indeed have a John Galt Blvd. In the process, I found roads in several other places named for JG as well. Maybe there are more of "us" out there than I thought!

I also got that mailer from Omaha Steaks and put it in the circular file with the rest of the trash. My cousin used to send me gift boxes from them and the meat was garbage IMO.

Apparently so. I found this at douglascohistory.org

"John Galt Boulevard was named in the early 1970s by Ron Abboud, a real estate
developer who once owned land where the street connects 108th Street to Q Street. His
favorite book was Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. “Who is John Galt?” is the opening line
and Galt is the hero in the Rand classic, which extols economic individualism and self-‐
interest, and foresees the decline of “men of the mind” and the end of civilization.
(Thanks to Omaha World-‐Herald staffer Bob Fishbach and his readers for the revision.)

This is about a week behind, but I'm a Vette Guy, too, who does long road trips. Like to the end of Zzyzx Road. So using Google Maps, I postulated an interesting potential east to west road trip of Galt waypoints:
John Galt Way, Florence, NJ / John Galt Way, Elkridge, MD / John Galt Way NW, Concord, NC / John Galt Way, Mt Pleasant, SC / John Galt Road, Beaufort, SC / John Galt Boulevard, Omaha, NE / John Galt Way, Arbuckle, CA

Looks like a good road trip to me!

I had to look up Zzyzx Road. I may have to check it out - I'm doing the western half of Route 66 next year, so I won't be too far away.

That's pretty cool, especially since it is hard to see Omaha farmers and ranchers reading philosophy of any sort!!

They have great steaks, by the way. Isn't Omaha known as the "Queen City of the Plains"?

“ hard to see Omaha farmers and ranchers reading philosophy of any sort!!” to Quote you, it’s getting hard to not see you as pretentious. You cannot be a successful rancher and not understand A is A.

Yes, I'm pretentious. Mountain folk tend to be that way.

Well, I have a mountain practically in my front yard. I guess that makes me smarter than the average valley dweller? I think not.

Honestly, what I have learned over the years is that I am perceived as MUCH more intelligent when I let other people decide how smart I am, instead of me telling them.

In fact, this poster just now (Just Now!) posted on the forum I referred to, this comment:

This (nameless) poster is looking for recognition, and adulation.

Honestly, D, I don't have much concern about how smart other people think I am. And I believe you are referring to my post where I stated I have been called a mathematical genius and polymath. You are assuming I did that to show people how smart I am. Your assumption is wrong. There are people on other forums who read what I post, and were saying that those without college degrees are neither knowledgeable nor intelligent. That particular post was for them.

My point was, which they probably didn't get, was that one didn't need a degree to be thought intelligent or knowledgeable. These people are mainly black Americans who don't understand the meaning of Nullius in Verba. I think I posted a topic referring to that.

And anyway, I did preface my posts of, as you assume, 'self-adulation' with that very question: can one be considered to have knowledge if one does not have a college degree? In actuality, it was one black president, so-called, who figured I was not as intelligent as himself, yet considered me an advisor, or mentor.

And please, for God's sake, do not go posting insinuations that I am a name dropper. Motive and intent for myself are not the same for you or black Americans.
