In russia, they have SALO. This is literally seasoned pork fat. They eat it raw with alcohol! (Of course this was because the communists took the meat and only left the fat, LOL)

I know why I did not even think of bacon, though I've enjoyed eating it all my life until recently..
Beginning a year or so ago, whenever I bought even for switching brands, bacon had way too much fat.
Got tired of stripping wide bands of fat off thin strips of bacon meat until I stopped buying bacon altogether.
Ham I never cared much for. If someone serves it, I will eat it.
