The Fountainhead speech

“No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives. His truth was his only motive. His own truth, and his own work to achieve it in his own way. A symphony, a book, an engine, a philosophy, an airplane or a building—that was his goal and his life. Not those who heard, read, operated, believed, flew or inhabited the thing he had created. The creation, not its users. The creation, not the benefits others derived from it. The creation which gave form to his truth. He held his truth above all things and against all men.

“The man who attempts to live for others is a dependent. He is a parasite in motive and makes parasites of those he serves. The relationship produces nothing but mutual corruption. It is impossible in concept. The nearest approach to it in reality—the man who lives to serve others—is the slave. If physical slavery is repulsive, how much more repulsive is the concept of servility of the spirit? The conquered slave has a vestige of honor. He has the merit of having resisted and of considering his condition evil. But the man who enslaves himself voluntarily in the name of love is the basest of creatures. He degrades the dignity of man and he degrades the conception of love. But this is the essence of altruism.

I think this is what Gail Wynand discovered about himself. The Banner was dependent on the irrational whims of his mass market audience. His goal was to be in charge, but it was they who were really in charge.

I have rad that speech over and over, eer since I discovered the book years ago. It says it all, what it should be. Sadly, what it now is not. Greed in politics. Youth folowing talking points, unaware of who they even are. I had hopes for Yellowstone on TV, but Sheridan is messing it up with complete msunderstanding of what free men are, he will destroy them. Maybe that is why I stick with Harmon's Gibbs on old NCIS, he is is close to what this calls for. This is close to what my HS taught, but not even close to what kids are told now.

This quote reminds me of my career in engineering. Always creating. In spite of the control-hungry shitheads in organizations claiming to save the earth I kept creating. I can chuckle about it now...

these days i look to the TV series "1883", "1923", and "Yellowstone" for wisdom
i know they are fiction, but the wisdom is still there

greed and apathy will kill the human race

i just wish we had REAL people like those in our nation still
just like i wish we had REAL Men like those Athens Tenn. 1946 still

Maybe you are looking in the wrong direction. Let's make that 'women'. Those who encourage their children to strive to do their best and not fall into the perils of drugs. I told my children I'd never used drugs because I'd never been that bored. Scared the daylights out of them. nb

            saw that also

also saw dem "judges" throw out GOP election law changes

and we both know the dems will cheat
we ALL saw how on election night 2020, the count was stopped when Trump was ahead and by some "miracle" biden was them ahead...
but there was no cheating that any so-called "judge" would looked at

and pence the traitor refused to keep his Oath and do what was needed to save this nation

and STILL all we see is talk from the GOP in DC

            yup, i am depressed
and yes, i still believe we can turn this nation around, but it will take something and someone that at this time i cannot see

"also saw dem "judges" throw out GOP election law changes"

Which under Article I Section IV is unConstitutional. States have purview to set their own policies for elections except where Congress - not the Executive and not the Judicial - passes a law to that effect.
