The Cost of Groceries Lately

This has been on my mind a lot lately. I go to a grocery store that isn't in the upper end of pricing. But, every time I go lately I'm stunned at what groceries cost. What the hell is going on here - in the grand scheme of things? Is our leadership trying to put our citizens on a diet? Trying to get us to eat bugs and weeds? One of my kids wanted dad to grille some hotdogs tonight. Pack of hot dogs, a little ice cream, buns and (for dad) sour krout. A couple other small items. About $65. I'm doing fine financially but what about Joe Sixpack? How are working, paycheck-to-paycheck families doing it these days? Is the government trying to grow the food stamp program? These prices are getting ridiculous. One obvious note is the price of turkey/chicken dogs vs. beef. Appears to be about a 3X difference.

Any similar observations? Any thoughts?

I've similarly noticed grocery prices advancing skyward (living in Southern Arizona). I shop at Food City, mostly, where most of the Mexicans shop, so as to keep my food costs reasonable.
However, I have a different story.
In 2003, I bought a new base model Camry LE for $21,000.
In 2021, I replaced that old car, with new a base model Camry LE for $23,500.
An 11% appreciation in price over 18 years -- and the new model has twice the number of air-bags, all the electronic assistants, glass panel, Sirius XM, Android Auto -- plus, it gets 45 mpg on the Interstate (the old model got 35 mpg). I am driving as much as possible -- thinking that soon, 2025? -- I will be required to install some new Green Odometer that tracks my mileage and then sends me a bill for all miles above X per month -- to fight Climate Change or some related nonsense.
The wheels are being pulled from the wheels of the economy; I am doing what I can to get in As Much Good Living As Possible in the time that remains.

Subsistence living is a full-time job.
Capitalism provides us with free time.

I can live either way if push comes to shove.

Cat Fish are good eating...:can concur!
We grow veggies. And Can....I’m friends with local ranchers and dairy farmers. And I know how to fix their stuff. So meat and dairy was never a problem during the pandemic. I trade beans for meat. Daughter has meat birds and layers. I’m also stacked to the rafters in the basement. Like 5 gal buckets stacked. With Oxy absorbers. Our personal strategy is to revert to pre electricity technology. I’m only kinda kidding when I say it’s a great time to be a Luddite. And if you all couldn’t tell by now. I’m an accelerationist. Let’s step on the gas and drive this bus way back in the woods so I can warm my hands by the dumpster fire of western civilization. I’ve already told my kids that they better learn to be happy with less. As a family when we start hurting there will be many many more who are way worse off.

Actually, I agree with you 100% along with the paper ballots like I get to use in Alabama.
The thing is, we will need a Republican president and a GOP majority in the Senate and the House and not enough RINOs to gum up the works to pass such a law.
No way the Demonrat wannabe commies will go for that.
Until that happens, the GOP needs to match Jackass Party voting techniques and to video record and arrest as much cheating as possible,

they will find a way to confiscate the gold (they know about or we are trying to sell it in a SHTF scenario) only if it lets the citizens avoid some sort of plan the government has brewing like "protecting" their dollar

Wow, looks like I picked the right place to retire. The hot dog and ice cream prices I quoted are sale prices, but even the regular prices are less than yours by about a third. And while our sales tax is 8.5%, it doesn't apply to food.

Personally, I hate ballot harvesting and think it should be illegal in all federal elections. It's widely acknowledged to be rife with fraud.

What I'd like to see is for election day to become a national holiday. All voters must vote in person at the polls. Exceptions - including for the military stationed overseas - by mail-in ballot must be signed and witnessed by a notary public under penalty of twenty five years in prison per violation. In addition, the penalties for election officials tampering with votes should be no less than twenty five years in prison per violation. Any state which decides to allow for electronic vote tally machines may do so but both the manufacturers and the Secretary of State can also be punished by no less than twenty-five years in prison upon conviction for vote tampering.

Because until you dig into it you think it is a real thing. It's a sleight-of-hand by the politicians to disguise their failed policies.

What bugs me almost as much is how the agencies play with the definitions of things and the politicians never call them out on it.

I'm in Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix. We have three major supermarket chains, plus Walmart and a couple of discount chains. Fry's (owned by Kroger) has the hot dogs on sale for $1.99, and the ice cream for $2.99. Walmart's regular price for the buns is $1.38.

I am going to make a few recommendations.
We have a stock of Whey Protein and various canned proteins (Sardines).

As push comes to shove, strongly consider giving up bread, sugar, carbs.
    These things make you hungrier.

I eat a 99% meat only diet. yes, it's more expensive, but not much more.
I haver near zero food waste.

I buy in bulk. Vacuum pack, and freeze (if you vacuum pack, look into Sous Vide).
Take it out, drop it in the water bath, and cook it. Don't sweat the timing.
Great for Ribs, Brisket, etc. (I cool them off, then put smoke on them).

Learn to Can. So you can buy in bulk, Pressure Can. We are doing more soups this way, but things like meat sauces, or beanless chilis.

Finally, learn to FAST. Probably one of the healthiest things you can do.
If you do a 3-5 day fast, you shut off creating new blood vessels... And this is what makes Cancer Dangerous. Having direct access to your blood/glucose.

Find a way to LEAN INTO what is being forced upon you. It beats complaining, and it can build "Super Powers". There is something magical in knowing that I Can skip eating every weekend. Or I can eat just 2-3 cans of sardines for most of the week, then have a decent meal. And actually be healthier for it.

YMMV... But the less I eat, the healthier I get!

The honest voters could not beat the massive cheat of 2020.
A massive landslide for Trump might help during 2024 with the GOP may or may not adopting the left's early voting tactics but that remains to be see,

I hope you meant each? LOL.
It's $6.09 for 8 publix brand beef franks (Store Brand). $4.00 for 8 buns.
$7.53 for Mayfield Chocolate Ice Cream.

so $18.00 (About triple your number)
    Florida... Then 6% sales tax.

Term you make a great point about them taking gold. I will demand SILVER as payment. Or Platinum. If forced to sell, I will purchase other precious metals. But I will FIGHT like hell.

The reason they had to make gold illegal before was to get rid of the GOLD Certificates and de-gold the system. Since they already did that, they don't need to do it again. Besides, they are holding the price of gold down pretty well... Until they can't!

Until we elected an IDIOT as president... And he urged Russia and China (through his weakness, and WEF Plans).

    FITFY.

He had one job. Do not let Russia and China become good buddies, as together... They can defeat us economically and militarily! (And in todays world... In common sense, and basic strategy).

But he sh!t that bed pretty quickly!

I suppose we used to grow our own cattle for consumption and there were NO middlemen. But people don't realize what is involved in actually providing for oneself what we used to just go to a store and buy.

I havent heard much about this, but the changing in actual supply chains required by de globalization will raise prices of a lot of things. We had been enjoying the benefits of globalization until russia and china decided to take over countries and we elected an idiot as presicent
