Just saw AS III

Just saw AS III in Bellevue WA. The 7:15pm show sold less than 25% of the seats. The film follows the book well. There is always material left out when a movie is based on a book. John Galt and Dagney Taggert were well cast and played the parts well. Joaquim de Almeida is too old for the part of Francisco d'Anconia. Henry Rearden deserved more screen time. I was disappointed with Part III. At least the movie was made. Atlas Shrugged would do better as a TV mini series. This would allow more time to develop the characters and explain the philosophy of objectivism. Thank you to the producers for making this trilogy.

I agree totally that Joaquim de Almeida was the wrong choice for Francisco d'Anconia. Even though I like him as an actor, I felt from the first announcement that he was too old for the character. I was also disappointed that we didn't get to see Dagney make her speech revealing that Hank had been protecting her when he signed the "gift certificates". Though I do understand decisions have to be made when it comes to translating a book to the screen, I would have liked to see that scene and the attack at Hank's plant. I had to drive 60 miles to see the movie and overall I did like it. Hopefully, we'll get to see deleted & extended scenes when the disc comes out.

I would have gladly traded a few minutes of Colorado scenery to see Francisco's last discussion with Reardon before Reardon "shrugs". The voice-over by Reardon dreadfully short-circuits his struggle and final decision.

I also thought the rescue scene played far more like something from a TV show [Numbers, perhaps], than CEO/business executives stepping outside their usual world to rescue Galt.

Dittos cranedragon. Using Dagney to distract the guard was true to the book. However her her leading the assault in high heels and no combat training was over the top.
Rearden deserved so much more time. The wet nurse dying in his arms would have had impact. Rearden walking out of his meeting with Mooch, Megs and James Taggert would have been so doable. The brick of gold presented by Ragnar and missing from Rearden's safe the day after he disappeared. Scenes like that belonged in the movie.

cranedragin and terrycan: Excellent examples of scenes that greatly contribute to the book, and should not be expensive or difficult to film. Perhaps those scenes are more important to those who have read the book? I know I would have appreciated those scenes. I admit this is armchair quarterbacking at this point.
