The magnetic shield started weakening back in 1859 with the Carrington event.

This process happens every 12K years and we are just about there with a very small variability factor...give or take 20 years out.
Cern cannot affect the magnetic shield around the earth in space in my learned opinion.

So riddle me this Batman: CERN first turned on in 2008. It produces a magnetic field approximately 4 times that of the Earth. The pole shift acceleration seems to have coincided with this event. The newest version now produces 12x Earths Field. It was shutdown a few months after start-up claiming they found the data they needed. I think (IMHO) they realized they were producing negative effects that may/may not have profound world wide consequences. Mucking with the Earths magnetic core can have extinction level effects.

The south pole has left the polar region some years ago now and the North pole left the polar region this year.
We will loose some of our atmosphere during the micro nova but only on the sun facing side, it will quickly balance out leaving the surface in an instant freeze; but will thaw out with a few days to a month.

I have been watching the shift patterns with fascination. The rate of shift is increasing (accelerating) Interestingly the magnetic pole is closest to the physical north pole than it has been in over 500 years, but at the rate it's moving it will overshoot the mark within a year.
Question for extra points: Mars somehow lost it's magnetosphere, when it did, it's atmosphere blew out into space, if there was life on Mars it left or perished. What are the chances the same couldn't happen here? (except for the fact we can't leave to find another home planet)

Won't have to wait too long for total destruction...maybe 20 years out, at the rate the magnetic poles are moving. Then Earth tilt, mag reversal and the crescendo ending in the Sun's micro Nova. Then a New Cycle of civilization for the next 12K.

If you are young and healthy enough to make the physical run to a Gulch, then do it. One of my mistakes was overstaying my life in the Peoples Republic of New York and now it's nearly impossible to move. I'm trying to set up a Gulch in place, but it has a lot of pitfalls if the SHTF significantly any time soon. Recent events indicate a lot of vulnerabilities in my present situation - a situation that should have been pretty darn good even if not perfect.
