What's in a name? Or a passport?

"The athlete has repeatedly dodged questions on the matter, saying only that she feels American when she's in America and Chinese when she's in China."

Because what's on your passport isn't objective truth as to your allegiance. [/s]

In the FOUNTAINHEAD Peter Keating tried to play both sides to "win" and Ayn wrote him as character deficient.

Rational self-interest is related to depth of character (of which this young athlete has none).

No need to quibble. I see those pursuing rational self interest in the objectivist way and those pursuing self interest by looting as different species. I should have made that more clear.

I'm going to quibble slightly. Elitists are by nature short-lived opportunists who only think about one side of the value equation: their own. Those enlightened by self-interest understand that true business relationships are long-term and involve a win-win scenario rather than a win-lose one.

Accept responsibility for one's own failures? Never gonna happen, at least not from anyone on her side of the fence.

I’m just going to call it out for it’s objective truth. She’s an opportunistic little whore, in the sense that she’ll be who she has to be for money, who has NOTHING in common with the Chinese people.
Does anybody believe she doesn’t get pampered and have special treatment by Beijing? If she were to truly have a taste of the government she’s so proud of she’d run back to California screaming about how oppressed she was. Pretty sure none of her family was starving in Shanghai.
    In short......(forgive me Nan)........F HER!

On the other hand she is pursuing her own self interest. So Rand would be impressed. So I guess the objectivity cuts both ways.

This was as simple as not making the team, and changing teams. Everyone should just accept that is what she did, including her.

    Opportunistic. No allegiance to anything.

Welcome to Ann Arbor. They all live in North East Ann Arbor near the U o M Engineering School. Rarely do I see one without a mask - even when alone in their car. I suspect they are all used to government intimidation and blindly do what they are told to do. Sad. A glimpse into our future.

I'm growing so tired of this imbecilic and ungrateful culture. The myopia will only feed the corruption and contempt of the 'elite' mindset of our pubic servants, emboldening them further by justifying their belief that most people, who aren't them, are total morons.

Damn shame future generations in the us will never realize freedom, even to a modest extent I had.

The Chinese elitists are known for sending their children to US universities, just like the elites from many other nations.

One more crappy tidbit from the sporting world, which is just one of many reasons I don't bother with it anymore.

She's probably got a full scholarship so Stanford can use her as recruiting propaganda.
