Shells my state provides for tower duty are loaded with double-aught buckshot.
The shells in the shotgun near my bed are loaded with slightly bigger, harder-hitting, more deeply penetrating triple-aught buckshot.
It's a good shell for hunting moose. There are no wild moose in Alabama and I don't expect one to walk by my bed. Still, you never really know.
Speaking of moose, a few years back on the Beautiful North Shore while driving up Lake Superior to the gunflint trail there was a few smallish sheds and buildings with a gravel parking lot. On the grass near the parking lot stood a very large Moose. I spotted it and we pulled in about 40 yards from it facing the moose , huge rack and all. We were there about 30 seconds and all of a sudden the moose charged the 🚘. It had its head down and looked the size of a truck. In a flash it was almost on us and as I hit the Horn and my BW screamed Bullwinkle skidded to a stop and reared up. I don’t know what was louder the horn or the scream. Holy schnitzel.
Your horn honking triggered a memory of a brother and I seeing the Southwest during the summer of 1973 just after I got out of the Marines.
We were in the middle of a flat Utah desert when a herd of wild horses decided to stand in the middle of a two-lane highway.
People in front of me with Utah plates were all going Honk! Honk! Honk! with the horses ignoring them.
Then Alabama boy me remembered what I've heard cowboys do in movies, stuck my head our of the window and screamed, "HEEYAAAH!"
Those horse bolted and stampeded across the desert like a cougar was after them. Recall saying to my brother, "Why couldn't someone who lives in Utah think to do that?"
As for diverse ammo, I've loaded my pocket pistol, my larger car gun and a special-made carbine with ARX 9mm Inceptor ammo.
Turned out my carbine jams with hollow point ammo but not the ARX with wicked-looking grooves in its nose.
I once read in a comments section about the ammo someone saying he did not want to go the court after using such "murder, death, kill" ammo.
Heck with that! I'm of the rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6 persuasion.
