I'm very happy to have landed in the Gulch...I have just found this place. While the spirit of John Galt has been in my mind my whole life starting from the teenage years, yet I didn't know who he was until today. But the spirit IS and has been there.

I like to think so. But its a work in progress. I try to do a little each week to get closer to it.

      Hopefully you have found yours!

I'm in E central WI. Moved from So Minneapolis 2 years ago.
In the midst of developing a consortium of like minded, very well prepared farmers, foresters, fisheries, foragers and foundries. A loose association of around 100 folks with plenty of productive acreage. We, literally, are creating a mutual interdependency based upon our mortalities. You can read Rand's take on this from her 1961 essay; The Objectivist's Ethics. The book that contains this is titled: The Virtue of Selfishness. The 20+ page essay underpins everything she ever authored; it is the simplicity beyond the complex. I use this every day as one of three foundational references for my living.

I will definitely read that today. I left a 'small' city about 8 years ago and moved to eastern Kentucky. Though I still have to work and commute to the larger city to work, I do raise a garden and do my best to live away from society. I wish I could say there was a community out here (there isn't really-- that I have found), but I try to go it alone with my small family. Once however my kids leave the house (in a few years) I will hopefully have the time to build more independence off the land rather than rely on society for anything.

You have a huge consortium of permaculture folks in your area.
Billy from Perma Pasture Farms is in Western VA. He has a network to connect with.

Watch the vids and ask for help in the comments. You'll be overwhelmed with responses.

This sounds great and I will! While at work I am lucky enough to be able to surf the internet, and I just finished the audio book you suggested. It has definitely got me thinking on what selfishness actually is. Thank you so much for this. I am looking forward to learning a lot more
