We have know a couple who died form supposed covid19, but were obese and not in good health. What is troublesome, we have known several in their 40s and 50s who died a day or two after the vax, previously healthy, just dropped dead, either of brain or cardio clots. One of our friends lost both of his younger brothers that way. It has all been since Christmas!

I respectfully disagree. I have in laws in China and it is not all what you describe. there is a burgeoning middle class with very modern appliances, autos and all the tech we have. yes, there is still the country with it's share of poverty. Yes, the population is politically brainwashed. But it is a hybrid system. Not purely central control not totally free market. I caution against painting the picture with a single brush stroke or color, it is a bit more complex than that.

I don't disagree with your uynderlying premise but at that point in time, Stalin WAS Russia. He was a dictator and executed anyone who disagreed with him and anyone he suspected of being disloyal to him. During WW II, it was as simple as sending them to the Eastern Front as fodder for a German bullet. After the war was over he started sending them to the gulags. Stalin's reign of terror extended until his death in 1953. He is credited with slaughtering between 10 million and 20 million of his own people - including millions of Jews.

We have a potentially civilization ending problem on our hands with this Gain-of-Function" research going on, not just in China, but all over the world. No less than 500 universities in the USA are being funded to do bits and pieces of this deadly work. I do feel compelled to say that, as much as I am no fan of China, they will do to us what we allow. My condolences.

Just got done reading the Oxford history of the United States covering WWII. It doesn't go into great detail but talks about Chiang Kai-Shek's government during the period and how Roosevelt effectively threw them to the dogs to placate Stalin. The US wanted Russia to declare war with Japan because they thought it was necessary to get Japan to surrender without a total invasion of the Japanese home islands. But it also mentions that the Nationalist government was already waging a civil war against Mao's communists even during the war - as if fighting the Japanese wasn't enough. And when it came time to supporting the Nationalists (with supplies, etc.) vs Russia, Russia won out, further degrading the Nationalist government. Following the Japanese treaty, it was only a matter of time before the Nationalists fell - regardless the fact that Truman was in charge at that point.

I'd be very careful about lionizing MacArthur, however. He was a WW II-era version of McClellan during the Civil War except that where McClellan was hamstrung because of his tentativeness in war, MacArthur was very much a "damn the torpedoes full speed ahead!" type who's cavalier attitude pressed for premature attacks and wasted lives so he could claim victory. He was very much a political blowhard all for that photo op of him wading up to the beach to his beloved Phillippines.

That being said, MacArthur and Patton both had it right when they characterized the Russians as just another version of Hitler. Unfortunately, with Churchill getting tossed out in favor of Atlee and Roosevelt's death bringing an unprepared Truman in, there was no one with any intestinal fortitude to check Stalin as he took over Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and the other nations which would eventually be consolidated into the tyranny of the Eastern Bloc or USSR.
