That brought back some memories, Ouc, memories of friends who never came home, friends who came home physically but so damaged mentally and emotionally that they left again, one way or another. I wonder what they went through to get to that state. My second husband was Marine with the 1st Marine Division. He and his buddies were the first wave to hit the beaches at Guadalcanal, and the things he told me about that place made my blood run cold. He spent a lot of time patrolling the perimeter at night in the jungles with a knife... What kind of nastiness are we headed for here? My "spidey sense" tells me I need more mental prep.
