There's sadly no incentive not to borrow money. If it just puts off paying for the future, that feels good today and it gives power to politicians involved in choosing how the money is spent. If it causes a monetary crisis, they know how to use crises for political purposes.

It's not that we elect evil people. Real deficit hawks, not ones who give lip-service to the deficit to undermine the other party's agenda, find it hard to get elected. So the largesse continues until the crisis: "Who could have seen this coming? It came completely out of the blue like the '08 bond crisis, but this one was truly unforeseeable because it affected rates on Treasuries, which are of course the gold-standard measure of risk free rates. No could have imagined those rates would rise."

    Prove me dino wrong, too. Oh, those videos I saw on Fox News! In Philadelphia security guards chased all the Republican poll watchers past a glass partition made blind by taped-on poster pasteboards. Phoning the local Democrat
    sheriff only gained a refusal to enforce Constitutional law.
    But it was that video of the cheating that happened in Atlanta~just a two-hour drive from where I live down here in the Deep South~that was one really nasty kick in my mouth.
    And those to incidents of voter fraud criminality is only the tip of the iceberg I witnessed reported.
