Why get vaccinated?

So far during my life time, people have been vaccinated in order to avoid getting a disease – polio, measles, etc. After we were vaccinated, we didn’t have to worry about getting that disease.

So I have to ask, what is the purpose of the Covid vaccine? If it is in fact a legitimate vaccine, once you are vaccinated, you should be immune and if not why get the vaccine at all? If you are immune, why would you care if I get the vaccine?

I've worked in the medical laboratory field for the last 30 years and am familiar with the issues. I studied the information carefully and knew someone in the clinical trial who teaches neuroscience.

The disease is real, it really kills people it attacks via an ACE2 receptor which I may have more of because my ACE2 inhibitor blood pressure medicine I've been taking for almost 20 years. I am 69 and, while not in the most risky group, certainly higher on the risk pattern.

I tracked the study and the reports of it. It was emergency use because the FDA rushed it. By rushed it doesn't mean they skipped steps what they skipped was the waiting for months to get a meeting that drug companies usually go through. They also overlapped steps.

Most reactions to vaccinations happen rather quickly as the immune system reacts. That was adequately tested by the large number of clinical trials that had to be completed for a month. While vaccines could have long term consequences that is a lower risk.

It is a risk, life is a risk. I made the judgement that it was less of a risk to take the vaccine.

Other people have different profiles and a lot of things are being said on both side of the issue that simply aren't true.

    I'm comfortable with my decision.

Generally Covid testing is done by detecting specific spots of the Covid genome via PCR.

Essentially there are usually 2 or 3 target spots on the virus that they run through a genetic multiplication process to make enough copies to detect. If they detect none, then it's negative, however there is also how many cycles of amplification you do before you no longer count it. This is typically 35 to 40 cycles.

This can generate 'false' positives. In a way they aren't really false. That genetic material was found in your sample. Now it could be a contamination or it could be a small enough of an amount that it has no clinical effect on you.

Almost looking forward to getting black market papers - or making my own. The problem will be as soon as the bootleggers look like they've got it solved, the paranoid busy body control freaks in our government will spend billions of tax dollars to make sure the official papers can't be duplicated. You will likely have to crack into a vaccine database somewhere (Clinic? Hospital? School?) and make sure a vax data record for you is created and uploaded to Big Brother and receive real official papers.

I got vaccinated because I am in a risk group and Covid-19 was a serious risk to my survival. I did not want to take the risk that my immune system would win without some assistance.

I have that. Other people, who have different risk profiles might reasonably make other decisions.

In general, there is no reason for me to wear a mask, although I probably would if I were visiting someone with an active case of Covid -- vaccines just give your own immune system an edge, they aren't absolute.

We are being forced to wear masks in LA county essentially so that we will turn on the people who do not get vaccinated and force them to do so.

Interestingly, the other day I actually found a scientific mask study -- not a scientific argument or a model: the Danish mask study DANMASK-19. They had approximately 3000 people wearing masks and 3000 not. Of the ones without masks, 2.1% got Covid-19. Of the ones with masks 1.8% got Covid. The difference was not statistically significant. It shows some mild advantage but certainly nothing that would support a mandate.

I've seen a bit of carefully hidden walking back posturing on the news saying the "vaccines" are not truly vaccines but lessen or mitigate the symptoms of the real disease and don't actually cure it - kind of like HCQ or Ivermectin.

Get vaccinated to avoid being sent to the planned Gulag for the unvaxxed.
Prior to the Gulag, unvaxxed will be social pariahs. I won't be surprised if their credit cards and debit cards are cancelled, bank accounts closed.
On the bright side there will be a big black market in vaxx papers.

    Where are Your papers, comrade?

Dumb question. When they test for Covid they are testing for antibodies.
So, I had Chicken Pox as a child. If my children have chicken pox, wouldn't I test positive for Chicken Pox antibodies?

Those are rational and logical questions.
Unfortunately, those who call us antivaxxers, are neither rational nor logical. They don’t know how to think. They are conformists and not objectivists.
