Umm, neither? Where is this conservative volunteer government he/she speaks of? If we truly did, or if we did and such a government was half-competent, we might not have the other kind.

I have called it an “ Uncivil War” for four years.
But I should have called it Good vs Evil War.

I'd prefer the volunteer government that obeyed the constitutional limits of the original constitution plus Bill of Rights. (You probably already knew that was my opinion.[grin])
I do think that the military does need to be professionals at their craft, and that the civilians who control them should also control their impulses to use the military to meddle in foreign affairs.

I think your friend has accepted Bill Clinton's twisted definition of "professional".

We know what is going on.

And not represented at all by those who believe neither in altruism or socialism.
