Gamma Ray bursts are potential threats, and the magnetic field is a buffer for them, if small enough. No field no buffer. You get whatever arrives, even if small and weak. The general cosmic ray out of local space is sometimes hig, but solar wind, and CME material would have no buffer. If a CME like Carrington could wipe out today's tech WITH a magnetosphere, what would a small one do without?

In a sense, yes, the overall issue is the field is weakening, and the magnetosphere is shrinking, which is noted in solar minimums. That opens the poles to Cosmic Rays and Solar Wind energetic particles and fields which can enter the earth at both poles and charge the core, heating it up. Heating creates expansion and results in more volcanic and tectonics activity. While we have some luddites in the Gulch, it really i a serious issue and is unprecedented, and if the fields collapse your Mars statement is 100% ture. Without a magnetic field, the atmosphere can be slowly stripped away by Solar Wind, and Cosmic Rays, which get intercepted by the magnetosphere causing the aura borealis, reach the surface. That is a bad thing.

Considering the amount of activity seen in a cloud chamber, there are a lot of particles made by highly energetic cosmic rays made by the shielding atmosphere. There would be no "DNA cooks" only some possible extra mutations. Humans have been bombarded by radiation all during their existence without dying out.
The main changes in weather at present are most likely due to the extra energy stored in the oceans from the recent solar maximum evaporating more water.
I don't remember Noah's Ark and neither does anyone living today. The whole story does not have any physical basis.

I think that the earth, being as large as it is, is relatively unaffected by man, as compared to its inherent characteristics.

Therefore, I think that we are pretty much powerless to affect the earth, one way or the other, and in particular in OUR lifetimes (especially mine). Therefore, I ignore all the prognosticators on the climate change bandwagon who think that politics can have any measurable effect on what was going to happen anyway.

If I am wrong, so be it and I will bear the consequences of my decision.

Since magnetic poles repel one another, they can only approach each other by the application of outside force or the weakening of the internal magnetic environment. My guess is that we are, again, experiencing the weakening of the internal force. A weaker magnet means weaker force means reduced Van Allen Belt means less protection from the sun’s radiation. See Mars for the results of extended loss of this type of protective force. The Earth shouldn’t get as bad as Mars, but it will be a serious situation if extended for multiple generations.
