On the one hand, this is the kind of mindrot that Ayn Rand warned about.

On the other hand, it resulted in a fool's being parted from USD 120,000. (It's a pity that it went to a liar, though.)

So, when the banana rots will it be worth more or less? I can see it now, idiots falling all over themselves bidding on the banana that used to be. LOL!

    Things outside my understanding-
the effort going into making garbage, selling garbage, buying garbage, praise of such garbage, linking the garbage to human aspirations. ..

I thought things couldn't get more outrageous when a canvas with nothing on it but a uniform blue color, named, appropriately enough, "Blue" sold for over a million dollars, but this tops that for stupidity.

At first I thought it was an Onion gag. Then a publicity stunt. Or maybe the alleged buyer would get the whole wall. After all, without that, there is no "art". "Comedian" as a name for this travesty is appropriate. The "performance artist" who ate it--was that part of the gag?--left the buyer with nothing to take home. Oh, wait, they got a new banana to replace it. Or not. I'm now waiting for the lawsuit by the buyer to get $150,000 for the "destruction" of her purchase. Why are we even wasting a moment's attention on such drivel? Oh, wait--it's comic relief from all the tensions in the world. OK, I'll settle for the publicity stunt. All you people trying to get a rational philosophy out there, along with a romantic manifesto for art, here's your playbook: theatre of the absurd.

Any new places to think of Gulching? Right now, except for this site, I have removed my mind from "civilation". Crazies out there are creating a real zombie apocalypse. Only a zombie, rich or not, would buy a rotting banana believing it is worth$120k...
