That's how cults work.
It isn't as if Lewis were just some random schlub sitting around looking for something to do, when the Invisible Hand blessed him with good fortune. It's more like he set out to use the system against itself, and he has been successful beyond his wildest expectations.
Even if he succeeded in destroying Western Civilization, he likely already has his personal fortune safely tied up in a complex network of offshore holding companies and trusts.
