Mexico opposes illegal immigration. Why don't Democrats?

The statistics aren't even close. I think what is interesting is that it took Trump's threat of tariffs to get the Mexican government to enforce not only its own policies, but the will of its people.

As we watch the light of day reach the far left and its political practices, i.e. blame the other side for your own faults and failures, the brightness of the truth is revealing their failures for all to see. Poor little Kamala Harris being bussed to school across town? No!

I'm getting old and remember so many of the left and far left social practices that are called progressive and they are not. No progress in progressive. Don't enforce the laws that get in their way but write new ones or nullify existing norms. The mayor of Portland is such an example. This man and his Ivey League education will probably be in the 2024 wave of post Democrats to run for the Presidency. Meanwhile President Trump is sucking the oxygen out of the lungs of the 23 POTUS wannabes. What fun to watch.

The USA could protect its own borders by processing asylum applications of new applicants immediately and leaving the old ones at the back of the line. That would discourage new flows right away

Why don't Democrats? The Jackass Party is hungry for new voters. That is the bottom line.
It's been pointed out to me dino here in The Gulch that receiving a driver's license equals the right to vote in Kalifornia.

We'll agree that the Mexican Government does not necessarily operate on behalf of its people on a consistent basis. There is no question that the Cartels hold major sway in Mexican politics - thus the heretofore lackluster efforts to corral mass migration. That being said, the polls were targeting the people. If there was a disconnect between Governmental actions and the will of the people, I would again note the influence of the Cartels as the primary source of that disconnect.

I also agree that the tariff threat (not really sanctions) was entirely effective in pushing for change. I think that there is no coincidence that our Founding Fathers saw tariffs the same way: an invaluable international policy tool.

Surveys are one thing and Mexican government actions are another.

Trump had it right when he threatened sanctions unless the Mexican government does its duty.

Who is really for illegal immigration?
(In the US, Europe, Australia, etc.)

Drug cartels, sex traffickers, yes. Add, big manufacturing wanting more cheap labor, land and home businesses who can rent out at the low price end. But without all of these there would still be a demand for open borders with mass immigration legal or illegal.

The decisive important support is political, from a big and growing movement, (re)gressives, the mix of socialistic/anarchist, collectivists. It acts not from self-interest but from (misplaced?) altruism. It is mindless idealism. There is this need to strut as moral, moral posturing, whatever the cost - to someone else.

Not according to the survey referenced in the article. Only 9% of Mexicans were for allowing anything like that. Who is really for illegal immigration into the United States? The drug cartels, as they use people for sex trafficking and as drug mules.

Mexico is not opposing illegal immigration, e.g the illegal immigration that targets the US.

They don't want illegals on their shores but more than willing to pass them on to the US.

    Let's be clear on that.

    Two points:
    1. Most governments must be pressured (forced) into doing the will of its people. To date the Democrats have not felt the required pressure to enforce and/or change the laws to fit the will of the people. The President is applying pressure but the Dems and some Republicans don't seem to think the problem is sufficiently bad to yield to the pressure -- yet.
2.Mexico has a shortage of jobs that pay well (or so I've read). this makes sure the citizens of Mexico know who is working and where they come from. Illegals take their jobs just as they take jobs here in the good old USA. This really irritates peole trying to make a living and support their families.
