Kuhn's book is important, but it is especially important to understand it in light of Rand's ideas or you could head down the road to subjectivism and social constructionism.

The advantage of Ayn Rand is that she presents her ideas in story form. I have always felt that a parable is more memorable and hence more instructive than a lecture.

If you interested in the history of the development of science and technology, way more palatable than Kuhn and one of the most thought provoking works you can expose yourself to, is a 10 part 1978 BBC series narrated by James Burke called, "Connections". It is as relevant today as when he created it. Here is a link to Episode 1.

Burke takes an interdisciplinary approach to the history of science and technology and how discoveries and breakthroughs really happen. He explores the "technology trap" and what this means for individual power, liberty, and privacy. It is an outstanding series if you have any interest in this type of subject matter.

It's an issue of induction vs deduction. I generally agree that in communication induction is better.
