Half Truth or Fake News? PBS, biased again.

Data is correct, but...
Picture of AR15s with title about gun deaths, when AR15s are responsible for a tiny fraction.
Death rate, not balanced by total homicides/deaths (knifes, blunt, etc).
Mass shooting note about the effect, but then note about how silly it is to respond by arming teachers.
Then the total gun deaths, not adjusted for population.
Unsupported/misleading statement that guns are a major health problem from a Harvard professor.

Seems like all the data is correct. How can this be fake news?

True. It’s time to stop trying to convince people to be rational, and just use rationality to advance our lives without Feeding the liberal agenda to put roadblocks in our paths

I know you mean unbiased firearm education instead of the biased anti-gun propaganda that currently is preached in schools (that honest sane gun owners are forced to pay for.)
That plus a repeal of all existing gun laws because they all violate the 2nd amendment. ;^)

It is getting harder and harder to take the liberals seriously and not just go GALT on the whole thing and let it collapse of its own weight.

The problem is that going GALT has immediate downsides for ones own life, and requires giving up a lot of the creature comforts and benefits we still get from the capitalistic parts of our society. It is getting to me more and more, though.

I keep answering questions on Quora about “What gun laws would gun right advocates consider appropriate/helpful/good?”

My answer has been, requiring firearm education in public schools. This would ignorance, accidents and irrational fear. I would support this.

True enough. Francisco in AS had it right when he said that its a war out there, and we need to take sides- referring to the collectivists. Maybe I will put my MAGA hat on again and see if someone can tear it off my head while he sees me gun

Eventually is a long time. If, over the next 50 years, the socialists continue to gain in power and immigration of people with no understanding of the importance of private gun ownership continues unchecked, while those of us who understand and have experienced some freedom grow old and die, then private ownership of guns could be legally banned without an uprising. If we teach our children and grandchildren the crucial importance of private gun ownership and they teach their children as well, then the state could make firearms illegal but the civil unrest that would result would make Lincoln's Tariff War seem like a minor disagreement.

Only the government will have them, and their power will go up and government crime will soar. The liberals dont really care if the criminals cause crime- just look at democratic controlled areas. If they cared, they would do something about crime in those areas.

It’s the usual lies, damn lies and statistics. When that doesn’t work they move on to “big data.”
The article gives an intentional mistaken impression. It fails to include any mention of the frequent use of guns in defense of life. The government purposely doesn’t even collect data on the number of times guns are used in self defense, often without a shot being fired, because they don’t want to know.

The article further doesn’t mention that when one type of weapon is difficult to obtain another is used. You are not going to prevent someone from committing suicide by restricting guns, they just use another method: jumping from a great height, knife, belt, shoelaces or a fist full of pills. You aren’t going to stop crime by making guns more difficult to get. England has horribly restrictive guns laws and is an island which makes it more difficult to get around the restrictions by bringing weapons into the country; this is the left’s frequent excuse for why gun laws don’t stop murders in Chicago and other leftist hellholes. There are still plenty of crimes using guns in England and when guns aren’t convenient they use knives, explosives and trucks to kill which is why PBS won’t show those statistics. Knife crimes are so bad in England they are discussing knife control. This is a further regressive policy by people who call themselves Progressives in Orwellian fashion. The Magna Carta, often considered an inspiration for our Constitutional rights and the first delineation of the rights of subjects recognized a right to be armed. Prior to this it was illegal, usually punishable by death, to own or carry a sword unless you were some lord’s knight. Soon they won’t even be allowed to carry a knife let a sword.

I do think that eventually, they will make gun ownership illegal in the USA. They are chipping away at it every day relentlessly. Requiring registration of all guns is the first step to confiscation.

I get it. liberals and their media want to take away all guns, except those held by the government. That helps guarantee the politicians in the government will stay in power. Tried and true methods used by dictators all over the world.

    They also use a non-sequitur:
"These numbers come days after a gunman in Jacksonville, Florida, fatally shot two people and injured 11 more before he killed himself..."

Somehow the Jacksonville shooter caused the numbers? Or perhaps the numbers retroactively caused him?

Perhaps if we just string words togetherness gunslinger morphing salad undressing reporter easy paycheck cloud cuckoo.

Thank goodness we have the second amendment. In Canada where gun rights are not a part of their Constitution they are actively looking at outlawing handguns.

And here are some of the facts that get conflated (or ignored) in there:

    1) firearm homicides in the United States are predominantly in Democrat-controlled major cities.
    2) firearm homicides in the United States are predominantly in cities with extensive gun control laws on the books.
    3) most firearm homicides in the United States are gang-related.
    4) most firearm homicides are with a handgun - not a rifle
    5) estimates are that there are 1-2 MILLION annual uses of defensive firearms to halt or prevent crime.

On a somewhat bizarre note, NPR is being blackballed and censored by the social media tech giants for publishing a report about how phony the declarations of hundreds of school shootings are. They had the unmitigated gall to actually call each of the schools cited and ask if the reports were true, and discovered that most were uninvestigated anecdotal statements that NPR found were untrue.
