Netflucks be gone. First Susan Rice now them. I can just imagine what trash they will come up with. They better hurry before their reality show is filmed at Gitmo.

You should have your own experience there. I loved both, and I lived in each for more than 18 months. Australia is the size of the lower 48 states with only a population of about 22 million. Going for a couple of weeks and not liking the country would be like coming to America and disliking it when you spent the entire time in NY, Boston and DC. My first visit in NZ was a waste of time due to bad weather that the inefficient tourist business could not make up for. I left after 3 days, but returned years later to give it a 2nd chance.
I will go back again when I have the opportunity.
Herb, its more like 12-14 hours flight depending on routing from LAX, and I don't know of any other practical choice for travel to Oz or NZ yet. Maybe Virgin or Musk LEO Travel will offer a shorter elapsed time in the future;^)

I really should be clearer about Miss Fisher. It's not the murder mystery that I enjoy so much. It is the character as portrayed by Essie Davis. Her expression, posture and attitude is the perfect rich female rebel of the 20's.Everything in the show is done to perfection. The 20's clothes worn by the characters fits their personalities. They are being directed so that every gesture is thought out and adds to the character. The fact that she has a murder to solve every day or so in a small suburban town is where you throw away belief and go with the fun. Solving the "mystery" is no big deal If you can't do it in the first 5 minutes, you're probably not paying attention.I'd like to visit Australia, but 6 hours from San Diego is beyond my capability even if I could afford first class.

I completely forgot to recommend Murdoch Mysteries (Canada) 11 seasons ongoing. Definitely recommend starting with the first season first episode. There are ongoing story arcs that you'd miss otherwise. Murdoch is an inventor who uses the scientific method to solve crimes as a police detective in Toronto at the turn of the 19-20th century. The writing is very good and characters consistently praise personal responsibility and productivity.
A quote from Detective Murdoch in Season11 Episode 6, "The satisfaction of a job well done is one of life's greatest pleasures."

You will have to learn the Kiwi accent/pronunciation, too. The pause and replay will help until you get accustomed to the difference in a few vowel/dipthong pronunciations. ;^) For example, "dead" sounds like a cross between the American pronunciation of "deed" and "did."

I agree on Miss Fisher, Herb. Essie also had a short but meaty role on Game of Thrones in 2016 (iirc.)
The Aussies and Kiwis are doing some excellent programs. If you like Miss Fisher you should also enjoy Brokenwood Mysteries from NZ. It is the best mystery series I have seen in years.
The Aussies also did a very good gritty historical crime drama mini-series Underbelly starting in the same era as Miss Fisher with the same detail on authenticity (but does include brutal depiction of crime.)
If you enjoy a more modern drama with some odd, quirky, complex characters, take a look at the original Australia tv series Rake (copied very poorly in the USA series.)
For a look at how Australians deal with illegal immigration and other offshore crime, have a look at the Sea Patrol tv series.
They are available on Acorn tv if you want to avoid netflix. (You may also be able to stream some of them from the Australian/NZ sources if you have a vpn with servers there.)

Here's a Netflixer back atcha: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. The BW and I have fallen in love with Essie Davis who plays Miss Fisher and a cast of Australian actors who are A1 quality. Set in the 20's, with authentic (brilliantly done) costuming, and cars of the era it is a treat on many levels.

You mean that you don't care for the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies. I am shocked. They are so syrupy sweet that after watching just one, I thought that my teeth would decay. If it weren't for baseball and Fox News why bother with TV.

I find regular TV to be Very boring for the most part.Too many "reality shows and game shows, or sappy chick flicks. The only good dramas concern themselves with hospitals, fire stations, or police stations.

After an F5 tornado that missed my home by a quarter of a mile with miraculously no damage during April, 2011, my power was back on in three days but my cable (no TV and no PC) was out for a whole month.
What was really nice was that I had a stacked Netflix queue that snail mail kept on giving. I was watching DVDs and sending them back as fast as I could.

Don't know, Netflix would be no different than say ABC, CBS or NBC...you might watch only the shows that you like and approve of, ie, last man standing, Rosanne, American idol, America's got talent or at least your local news and weather.

At least with Netflix, you could give obobo's show a massive down vote and call it a day, Giving your favorite shows top billing.

It started with the NFL, then Dicks sporting goods, now Netflix - we start a national trend in just a few days, we hear that "their" sales are down, we all brag on it, a few high fives, then go back to bitching about the real problem. How about we pick a target that can actually make a long term difference? How about we focus on Americas foremost enemy? http://4thestatemedia.com/?p=472
