    Because it was a poor defenseless animal. Wah wah. Seriously, though, if it was injured, by all means, put the thing out of its misery. But an officer on leave? This world's values are upside down!

    why is an officer on leave over this? Even if he is disciplined, it took months for Texas to put body cavity searcher on leave.

    The snippet I heard on the radio yesterday about this was that the community held a vigil for the elk.
    If the elk was being a neighborhood nuisance, or was injured in some way (broken antlers?), then by all means, shoot it and eat it. Anyone who's willing to do that is okay fine by me.
