An excellent article demonstrating how the public debate is progressing (regressing in my opinion)

We keep hearing that drumbeat in spite of the rather vigorous decades-long "public dialog" precisely because those beating the drums don't like the outcome of the dialog.

So they just keep repeating "we need to have a dialog" ad infinitum, hoping they will get a different result someday.

I have been hearing the old drumbeat, “we must have a public dialogue.” What ?!?! We have been having this dialogue for decades. The gun-grabbers just don’t like the ending and are unsatisfied. They believe we can put the genie back in the bottle and everything will be lollipops and sunshine. You can’t un-invent the gun, atom bomb, or butcher knife. The world is not perfect, never was, and never will be. We must adopt practical solutions to minimize the damage, beyond that we must learn to live with reality. Teach your children well. Assess risk, protect and defend. Get the government off our backs financially so it isn’t such a struggle to pay the bills. Two income families as are now so prevalent that many parents don’t have the family time to teach respect and proper moral values to their offspring. Our TVs and computers are raising our children… Sad…
Government solutions generally end the same, the cure is worse than the disease.

We are supposed to accept that idiots who can't even balance a budget can legislate violance from our society--when in many ways they are the cause of it. They are not qualified to regulate a sling shot, let alone firearms.
