Madrid Replaces Traffic Lights With Gay Traffic Lights

No, this is not a hit piece against gays.
It's about libs blowing money that I can foresee as spreading from Europe to the city governments of San Francisco, Las Angeles and New York and likely in that order.
In those cities it will probably cost more than the $25,000 it took for Madrid to replace 288 traffic lights to symbolize two guy gays holding hands.
This may cause some lesbian group to sue for their own inclusiveness, but what I discern of the symbol shown with the article looks like two kids holding hands because mama wants them to more safely cross the street.
When I first read this article, I was gonna put it in humor. But I thought about it to conclude, "No, this is the stupid spending stuff of any kind of government nowadays."
As for the stupid spending stuff of our own national government~

    Interspersed with the ISIS flag.

Somehow whenever I see that thing, it reminds me of something that flock of seagulls did to the top of my convertible... although the seagull designs are much more enjoyable...

Good training for that is my 21-year career as a corrections officer at a maximum security state prison.

I have arranged my life so that I am minimally dependent upon the opinions of others. It takes a lot to get to that point but it's worthbit

Absolutely. You are one of the brave ones. But the trouble with PC is that if you speak your mind and are honest about it, they come at you with threats, name calling, and intimidation. Too many people can't stand up to that barrage....like the wimpy Republicans in congress and the senate. Ergo, the Liberals continue to get away with this stuff and the first amendment suffers. Yep, PC is the Liberals best friend.

Entertaining, but not likely to change the discriminatory views in Spain, which eclipse those in the US.

Some already do that - I can think of a handful of city halls and other "public municipal buildings" and monuments that have those color coded LED light systems - depending on the cause du jour they can do everything from the rainbow to good socialist communist red to tree-hugger green... all at the push of a button. Hell - look at the Eiffel Tower... or the Washington Monument... or the SF city hall... (recently in blue and gold for the warriors basketball game - when they lost miserably, the gal at the switch turned it red... )

I'm surprised they aren't streaming words on it - probably soon to a state capitol building near you... Leninist slogans, the collected works of Big Brother, and the Islamic terrorist nutjob's black and white banner...

That's the problem with gov't. There's no incentive for me to lobby for my one cent back because they didn't use the best street light vendor, but there's a huge incentive for the overpriced vendor to lobby to become an approved supplier. I would not even have realized it costs more to get lights with this image or if it costs more to operate them. It is nice, though, because even in this day and age bigotry still exists.

Yes. It doesn't seem like a huge extravagance if they were going to phase in new lights anyway.

    Hahahahahaha.
Who is running Madrid? Laurel and Hardy?
Sorry, I know I should make some cleverly sarcastic remark, but every time I try, I burst out laughing. You can't make this sort of stuff up.

It's a nice touch. It's not going to change the world, but it makes me smile.

Maybe I'm just too young to give a damn, but personally, this got about 15 seconds of my attention, another couple minutes writing this, and poof - gone. Cities everywhere spend even more on even dumber ideas than this... Madrid wants a cutesy "walk" symbol with 2 people holding hands and a heart? Hell, they could have eminent-domained a couple dozen square km of town, razed everything within those boundaries, and spent even more of a fortune building a perpetual socialist-state money drain known as an Olympic Stadium and Village.

I don't live in Madrid... but even if I did... I'm not sure I would care what the municipal works department did... Heck, it mighty even be cheaper buying the LED inserts (IIRC they're not horribly expensive) than 10,000 rainbow flags to put up all over town that wear out in 2 years, and tend to get stolen by tourists (pretty hard to steal a Traffic Signal LED).. Might even "chap the hide" of some of these extremists flooding into the EU causing grief.

I did not realize how far gone our educational system has crashed, and it is not just in the usa, we have influenced the rest of the world with an equal amount of stupidity. has the storming of the bastille started?
the world has entered into the realm of a horrible joke. I guess when you are a politician and are taking tax payer buck for an income you just don't give a damn and it is not learned on the job, it is the reason you chose to become a politician because you just don't give a damn.

As shown by comparing an intelligent couple with a stupid couple in Idiocracy, idiots multiply a lot faster too. Like rabbits!

allosaur... I am a male in my first 70's and negated my chance to improve our gene pool 40 years ago with a vasectomy. It looks like the only help I can offer is to decrease the glut of idiots now in charge. Doesn't seem like a good idea or future but we are running out of time and good ideas. The idiots seen to live forever.

As the Idiocracy movie suggests, we may have to wait until Year 2505 before we may have a whole human civilization so stupid it would defy words; but unfortunately, we already have communities here, there and over yonder that are devolving into Idiocracy pockets.
The movie explains we no longer need the smartest and the fastest to improve our gene pool because there are no predators to thin our herd.
I woulda loaded a YouTube link. F-bombs are why I decided to pass. Well, you now know where to go to surf Idiocracy.

And you as a taxpayer may have to pay for this beyond absurd coming your way soon.
That should depend on where you live, though.
