Much of the centralized power is able to continue because of manufactured divisive issues. These issues are purposely ampilfied by the media to prevent awakening of the people and recognition of the core problem: centralized power and control of debt/credit/money creation which allows control of government and media by a small group of unproductive looters. Furthermore, this also allows debt slavery of everyone except the wealthiest and most tenacious producers.
Would millions of people be enraged (and imo manipulated) about gun control, abortion, creationism, terrorism, or marijuana if only the mundane truth of these issues were reported?
These divisive distractions are the primary reason that there are no meaningful improvements to the course of the economy, the increasing intrusion of government, and destruction of individual liberty.
As long as we allow less significant issues to divide us, all attempts to restore our liberty will falter and fail.

Sturgeon's Law: "99% of Science Fiction is crap; but then, 99% of everything is crap."

This is why relevant news will always be swamped by trivial... crap. But, relevant news can still be found by those who seek it.

A big part of the cause of this effect, imo, was given in their explanation. When they said that verbal assertions were considered open for debate, that's exactly why people were less likely to take them at face value.

But unless you have a dry-erase marker and a whiteboard (raaacist) handy, you can't really counter-argue a silent chart beyond saying, "I don't believe the statistics behind that chart are accurate".
