I'm not a Seventh Day Adventist, but surely even the police should have enough brains to recognize that everyone is entitled to a second opinion in medical matters.

If there is more to this story that didn't get posted, please post a follow-up. Prima faciae, this is a ridiculous overreach.

hmm.. well.. There are a few reasons for this sort of behavior floating around.

The purpose of the police is to keep the peace and prevent the use of force.

Notice in the story they didn't use flashbangs or a battering ram. Now just imagine how unnecessary all of that would have been if the mother was using reason as her primary tool for keeping her child alive instead of belief? Ohh, and had it been a Muslim, no they probably would not have..
