As soon as I found out about it I got the school I drive bus for to try to put together a trip (where I would be paid to drive to the location) so I can see it too! Of course it will be a great opportunity for the young kids in the astronomy club.

Here are some excerpted details I had emailed a couple months ago in setting up my car club’s Totally Eclipsed trip.

    When and Why
On Monday morning, the 21st of August, around 10:20 AM PDT, the normally benign Moon will attack and devour the Sun, leaving certain portions of the country in night-like darkness. Vampires might walk among us. The fearful may supplicate to the Aztec Lord of the Dawn, Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli, and with his assent and help, He will force the Moon to start regurgitating the Sun after a couple of minutes, returning daylight to us.

    Exactly where?
Just about the entire country will experience a partial eclipse (blah!), but a narrow path of totality, where the moon completely blocks the sun will traverse the country from the Pacific Northwest to the Atlantic port of Charleston. It will cover parts of 14 states and 5 state capitals.
You can find a quick guide to some best viewing places here: http://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/b...
You can find a fantastic interactive map here and zoom/pan/click to get local eclipse details, such as how long totality will last: http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/...

    Wait until next time?
Future US total eclipses: totality runs from Texas to Ohio on April 8, 2024. Two more across-the-country spreads on August 12, 2045 and September 14, 2099. Eclipse visibility will be awful from inside a wooden box six feet under.

A couple of weeks before the eclipse, form a company called 'Solar Ventures'.

Have the company issue notices to farmers and solar power plant operators that the sun was privatised by a backroom UN treaty, and that Solar Ventures owns the rights to all of the sun's radiation output.

In these notices, demand an annual royalty from access to solar rays. Threaten them that if royalties are not paid, there will be an initial warning outage of the sun's rays on Aug 21, 2017, and that future refusals to pay will result in more prolonged outages.

It looks as if it will be a fascinating experience. I'm reserving my parking spot at the nearest sea-side park for an unobstructed view.
    Or not.

The sun disappears every single day for hours. It just isn't that big of a deal to me.

Makes me want to watch Bing Crosby in "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court".
If you don't know what I'm talking about...watch the movie.

I am super excited! I live in Colorado, so a couple friends and I are going to camp up in Wyoming to watch! Gonna try to find a peak to stand on.

Another "right wing conspiracy" to the "you didn't build that", "we can't know for sure", "it's magic-not science" crowd.
