Traffic Cameras and the Violation of Personal Liberty

You can't make this stuff up. They just set these up near my house and have caused quite a stir. More evidence that a government if left alone will do anything to stay in power. In this case police departments know they can't get tax increases passed due to the bad economy, so they have turned to this.

    When I first moved to LA, I got a "red light camera ticket" (because I was in the middle of the intersection waiting to turn left and the light turned red, so I had to turn). It was for $500.

    I would say it is irrelevant. The speeding is only an excuse to create the revenue stream. It is human nature to push back against any law. so the intent is not one of safety but purely additional control. So I would say there is absolutely no justification.

    Did you do any research regarding to what extent speeding contributes to auto accidents, excluding those involving mood altering substances ? Inquiring minds want to know if there is any justification for speeding fines, other than revenues for police and insurance companies.
