    Now if they could get Google to follow suit and stop giving out search information...

    They collect a lot, but not as much as they can. It seems to have started with technical reasons to support and maintain their own products. It has drifted beyond that, but doesn't seem to be anything like what the government and other 'data mining' organizations are doing.
