    People (including me) are confused about this. In my lifetime we've gone from a time when it was obvious that freedom of the press was only free to those who owned one to people being able to transmit their ideas nearly for free. There's this irrational fear that somehow it will go back. Some how the people providing the infrastructure of communication will also somehow become gatekeepers, as they were in human history until now. I think most people think without net neutrality, a cable company like Time Warner might not forward packets to and from this website if we started saying things they disagreed with or if a powerful person like President Obama asked them not to as a favor.

    I don't think it actually works this way, but that's how it's been sold.

    And more evil since its goal is to control the content, no matter how many times they lie about its purpose.
