I thought it unusual that they were at the pharmacy counter. I don't know whether or not Muslims use pharmaceuticals typically, but suspect (here I'm probably being a bit paranoid) that they might purchase opiates to deaden anxiety and pain. I subtly mentioned to a friendly checker that she might observe something unusual that day. I ran into her again today in the parking lot, and she had seen the two women and shared my concerns.

Only if one or both have a beard! To see this is bizarre and unusual, however, one would normally and rightfully wonder about their fathers or husbands and what brand of mysticism they practice.
