By coincidence, Mars' closest approach to Earth occurs on the same night as a total lunar eclipse.

    I think that is one of the four 'blood moons' of 2014, as highlighted by John Hagee in his book of the same name. Re the close approach of Mars, let's take a giant leap and go there. Reminds me of a short story I read many years ago about the terraforming of Mars, titled "Crucifixis Etiam", which I believe translates, "I am crucified for you." Interesting story.
