I watched the movie "Wag the Dog" last night, and found it surrealistically real given the headlines we are seeing about the need to go to war in Syria.

The movie is brilliant: all about a President getting hammered in the polls, and deciding to declare a bogus war to change the subject line.

Satire, of course, but all good humor is bedded in some truth....

Arming the mujaheddin by any other name ends in the same bad place for us. We need to stay out of other countries civil wars, we've got our own going on here with the subverting of the Constitution so sharia can replace it. Or will the communist win?

Was there an official declaration issued from congress? Oh wait, do we still need to do that?

This is a 'sticky' one, since the War Powers Act was supposed to prevent any armed conflicts without Congressional approval. Obama gets away with arming the rebels, and thus taking a side in the conflict, by claiming that no soldiers are being sent to fight. The Nam war began with aid in the form of weapons AND 'military advisers'. We'll will see what happens next....

Did anyone pay much attention to the fact we backed Pol Pot in the just-before-things-went-south era,...er... months? We also backed Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and...wait, those are countries, full of factions of which we *possibly* back opposing/conflicting sides. So, the question is: is our government that smart, that stupid, or that fractioned? Or is it the concept that if you back both sides eventually you can claim you backed the winning side?

Since the U.S. is the largest Arms Dealer in the world, the business model is to sell guns to both sides.

There is that as well. I think the whole thing is so convoluted and complex its crazy. I believe people without an understanding of some very important realities, i.e. motivations of those we deal with, have been at the helm

anyway, there is a lot going on and I think its gotten a bit out of control. Just a random thought, do you think it better to live in your prefered government system or preferered economic system?

wyn, Consider making this a post. If you do, I'll make my comment again. I think it's an interesting topic for discussion.
If we truly lived up to the spirit of the Constitution, then we would also have the right economic system. For other countries, historically, those who have pursued economic freedom, have been more likely to end up with civil freedoms than vice versa.
