Very impressive answer. If all you hear is his faith then you should listen closer to his message.

ChuckyBob, don't make the error of assuming that a group of people -any group - always has the same beliefs and reactions. I am an atheist, I assume you are not. Let's talk about something else...well something related. Your church is handling charity exactly the way it should be handled - privately and by NGOs :) , not by government. They have sticky fingers.

Hey Chuck, I chose not to be bullied. I'm still here as there are many who do want us here. I hope you do the same. I concur with AJ that this is a wonderful forum for rational ideas.

There are good folks here. I'd say that ugliness is in the minority. You need to remember that the purpose of this forum to facilitate the association of objectivists and the discussion of their philosophy. Objectivists have their own rosetta stone which very often leads to confusion and strife when discussing things. While a good number of people I enjoyed associating with have left there are those here that make coming back from time to time worthwhile. Besides, there are some very interesting and intelligent conversations to be had here which you won't find almost anywhere else.

Well. If that is truely the sentiment here, I guess I'm gone. No sense in sticking around where you're not wanted. Ciao!

You have to watch closely what you say here no matter how you mention it. Certain words, ideas, and/or positions open you to public ridicule and condemnation. Carson is an intelligent an honorable man with staunch character (derived from his faith and his understanding of the Constitution), still some gloss over all that he is and all he has accomplished to discredit him because of his faith.

this is the proverbial "throwing out the baby with the bathwater."

Thanks, too bad a group of like minded, mostly cognitive individuals, can't just conduct a simple duscussion.

I thought the Gulch was a safe place to share intelligent and informed discussion, not a place to ridicule what one mistakenly thinks someone else believes.

Escept for his religious zealotry, he isnt bad. BUT, I dont vote for religious zealots to be in positions of power in the government. They always seem to drift into making me subject to their religion.

I think you watched a different video. He said, clearly, that government needs to get out of the way and let society, its people, take care of each other, as it used to.

Carson just reiterates what we have known all along. If one looks closely at every government enterprise beyond those specified in the Constitution, you will find a record of failure. It's just that some failures take longer to manifest than others. It is good to hear someone in the spotlight speak the familiar lesson and be brave enough to own it. Kudos, Doctor!

That last sentence did not escape my notice either. I would ask the follow-up question: what role in "facilitation" do you envision.

"If all you hear is his faith...." then that is what you are looking for! He really didn't actually mention his faith at all. It is interesting how certain candidates like Ben Carson cause certain people to hear certain things every time they talk even when they didn't say them.

Precisely. I setup a network for an old well established Church some time ago. Seeing them hand out food to the homeless and then turning them away, I asked why they didn't open the doors to the church to allow those same homeless to sleep on the pews at night under the supervision of the parishioners. Her answer stunned me: liability. Sad.
