It will be back in the next election cycle, the proposal to split California into six separate states.

The State of Jefferson may be very friendly to a Gulch... this may be something for us to get behind, not have to give up all of our freedoms we enjoy in the US, access to trade and industry, etc.

The democrats came out hard against this because the Republicans would heavily benefit. Out of the six states formed, basically 2 would be future democrat strongholds (West California and Silicon Valley) while the other 4 would be completely Republican by current voter registrations and turnout.

Of those, people that currently live in what would become Jefferson are pretty much of the opinion that if it doesn't bother them, whatever you do is your business.

The Si Valley area is where they proposed the first Seastead and the Blueseed ship. Neither one worked out, but it makes me think the area would be friendly toward one if they got it working.

To work Jefferson's southern border would have to and north of Sacramento and San Francisco. with the part to the North joining New Amsterdam (formerly Oregon).
