this is becoming annoying. . I gave a gun away,
after doing my own background check on the giftee
for 6 years. . it is sad to think that it's now illegal. -- j

Aha! CT also requires handguns to be sold with trigger locks, not sure about the cable lock. There is no option not to get one if you have a gun safe. Also, you used to be able to bring one from home but now they have to sell you another one.

my dad was in the army in ww2 and had a tremendous
respect for guns. . he passed it on to me and my sister,
training us to handle the few guns we had very carefully.
families are essential to the health of a culture, in my
humble opinion, and this is a perfect example. -- j

President 0 is a congenital liar.

He never mentions his government's stockpiling of ammunition to keep it out of the marketplace by making it scarce and expensive. Nor does he mention his EP's efforts to close down lead smelters who provide source material for bullets.

When the Constitution forbids him from making laws or taking guns, he hides the bullets. But he doesn't believe in the Constitution anyway, hence his illegal executive orders.

Not quite. The above poster (scojohnson) has many firearms, so a gun safe has practicality. For a few firearms or the nonce pistol, a simple locking device suffices.

From the Firearm Safety Certificate Study Guide. "California recognizes the importance of safe storage by requiring that all firearms sold in California be accompanied by a DOJ-approved firearms safety device or proof that the purchaser owns a gun safe that meets regulatory standards established by the DOJ."

A safety device can be a simple trigger lock or a cable lock that passes through the firing chamber. I do not need a gun safe as either a practical or legal matter in my California locale.

"Handguns are instruments for killing people" shows Ayn Rand's admitted lack of knowledge on the subject. They are also implements of simple sport and skill: punching holes in a close pattern in paper targets, akin to smacking down pins with precise aim in a bowling alley. I could shoot a great many rounds without ever injuring a single person or (multicellular) animal. Nor have I ever injured a person or animal with my bowling ball.
However, I purchased certain of my sport tools with the realization that criminals might choose to cause me grief, and worse, that I can not trust my government.

I actually do have respect for old college graduates, the ones that graduated from real schools that were real schools. I would not send my kids to Harvard today, that's for sure.

Hey, don't malign me or other MIT graduates. We know how to deal with our hardware and all kinds of situations. Many of us also respect the assorted talents of those who have not been involved with MIT or college education.

    Then again...

So true, especially to your last point. At my local gun club, when I talk to other members about when they started shooting, where, how, why, etc. it is so often something to do with "my dad taught us..." and "my dad took us hunting".

Don't forget the whole thing of peeing on yourself to discourage your rapist...

And now Germany is telling women to stay at an arms length from their rapist and not wear "provacative" clothing...

I hope I never have to use mine, but I would have NO problem killing someone very dead if they tried to harm me.

That's easy. I have zero channels and don't plan on changing. 20 years now..Are there four worth watching now? It's a two way street. My street started out with turn off at knob street. and suddenly it was traffic free!!! The other street is Why Street? Why do I have one of these 'things?'

He will not because it undermines his objective, and will completely take the wind out of the sails of all the afraid people, knowing nothing about firearms, wanting to ban the scary things.

He is an incredibly spoiled big baby. And he has to play in his golf sandbox every week, otherwise he gets upset!

If only any and all debates could be limited to people qualified on the subject... Then, of course, we will have about 4 channels of TV...

@MikeMarotta: Oh boy, I haven't read a comment by someone as confused as you are since the last time a Believer wandered into the Gulch.

"It is not illegal to give a gun away. You just have to register as a federally-licensed firearms dealer and carry out a standard background investigation." Right, which is the same as making it illegal. A friend of mine said that BATF made it so difficult for small gun dealers to keep their licenses that he gave his up rather than deal with their bullshit.

"How does registering it prevent you from having one?" That's easy to answer, once you register it it's a piece of cake for the government to come and confiscate it. That happens every time. Go peruse http://JPFO.ORG and you'll learn a lot.

TAUTOLOGY ALERT "homes with guns are known to have more suicides by gun and more accidental shootings" That is one of the most pointless, stupid, useless statements I've had the misfortune to read! It's like saying that countries with cars experience more automotive related deaths than countries without cars.

I have to ask, you do realize that Objectivism requires rational thought, right? The only time a rational person would make that statement is if he were 1) hoping his audience was incredibly stupid and wouldn't notice he was insulting them, AND 2) he was intellectually dishonest.

You're required to have a gun safe in CA? Great Zeus, I had no idea! Keep that quiet or else CT's governor will slam that one through the legislature. How about this, instead of me someday having to buy a gun safe I'll send you $20 for a copy of your receipt?

I'm so tired of this Prez taking the law into his own hands. During his news conference his said several times that he is not going after law biding gun owners, but indirectly he is!. Before he leaves office he intends to really piss-off lot of citizens in this country. If this happens, this country could end up inflames.
