Tea Party Looters?

Miss Zito makes an excellent point regarding groups that glob on to the Tea Party mantle, possibly with the intent of taking advantage of it as a cash-machine. Not sure $5Au agrees with regard to FreedomWorks, but nevertheless it does seem certain Tea Party "affiliated" groups may not be aligned with the original intent.

That article was like the many that bash Ayn Rand and "Atlas Shrugged" without naming principle or ideas. The Tea Party was and is many things to many people. I have posted here statistical samples of their goals and beliefs.

See "What is the Tea Party" here in the Gulch

Most seem to be mainstream conservatives in their later years who have no specific ideology or agenda. They want "less government" but not "fewer taxes" and they seem to think (overwhelmingly) that Medicare and Social Security are good programs that work. They also admire George Bush and never heard of Ron Paul.

That said, the article was just a smear job. What is wrong with making money by selling people books about ideas that interest them? I also posted about John Cornyn here in Texas, a man who claims NRA support but who jumped on a bandwagon to empower the Federal government to close down any website whose CONTRIBUTORS violate someone's copyright (PIPA and SOPA). Cornyn voted for Obamacare. He is a big government Republican.

I completely agree. That's why I don't buy the Tea Party's BS claim that they're supposedly supporters of freedom. As far as I'm concerned, the entire movement is just a bunch of diehard Republican groupies. They are not supporters of Libertarian ideals or Libertarian philosophy.

I do not agree that the Tea Party consists of "Republican die-hards." If that were true, they would align behind GOP incumbents against Democrat opponents and not place or support primary opposition. I agree that as individuals, they seem largely to NOT be consistent advocates of freedom. They do seem to be "mad as hell" but at _what_ is not well defined and what they (any one of them) intends to do about it - or recommends as a solution - is just unfocused.

Let me ask you, Half Eagle, just what was "the original intent" of the Tea Party? You wrote: "certain Tea Party "affiliated" groups may not be aligned with the original intent." They never published any manifesto or credo. The Tea Party seems to be a political Rorschach Test. Whatever you bring to it you project your own meaning onto it.

If the ship of Theseus has all its components replaced, is it still the same ship? If the Tea Party has all its members replaced, is it still the same party? Which A is A?
