What is next? Will they send inspectors to your home to sniff your chimney? The EPA is once again out of control! Wood burners beware! Campfires verboten?

    Government approved pellet stoves, that burn regulated government tested pellets. We used to have one in the old house - it put out heat, good, massive heat, easy on pellets, but the regs changed so we were supposed to change it out for a newer, government-approved --catalytic-- wood stove. Used more pellets to burn allegedly cleaner, and put out less BTUs. Then we were told that the county would no longer allowe anyone to use wood as their primary heat source. AND they were looking to add a woodstove surcharge onto our property tax.

    We sold the house and left. Now we can heat and cook with wood. Converting my "decomissioned" franklin (put in propane) to a coal forge, taking their dotgov commandments and turning it into a moneymaker.

    Prolly gonna break some environmentalists heart, too! --grins--

    Sounds like you live in my neighborhood - We use both for kindling & a quick warm-up of the cookstove, then valley oak or a nut wood (pecan, walnut, etc.) for heat.

    By the way - was doing some bootstrap engineering... amazing how one can turn a recently decomissioned-by-law woodstove into a rather functional custom coal forge... of coure, we'd *never* use it as a nasty, evil polluting woodstove... --giggles--

    Hello stargeezer,
    I hear you! Those old white guys that gave the world the greatest nation, founded on individual liberty, were completely undeserving of recognition. We must bow to the real masters you mentioned... I think I'm gonna puke...

    Sweet! I live on lake front property. When the economy is getting me down and I think my work is not being appropriately compensated, I tell my customers I would rather go broke with a fishing pole in my hands... at least that way I can eat. :) Yellow Lake Perch are the prize in my little lake. The Large-mouth bass are fun to catch, but not so much for eating...

    O.A., when I became "financially independent", it was more evident how mutually dependent my tiny cluster of family and friends were ... and this site is an encouraging view into optimism! More people worth befriending! WoW :}

    Back then you had to hunt for government. No it wasn't a bad life, though it was pretty chilly first thing in the morning. But you wamed up quickly after going out to draw a bucket of water, hit the outhouse, and bring an armload of wood in.

    You enjoy fishing too! This time between hunting season and spring is a good time to catch up on ones reading but every time you have a nice warm day sure makes you want to grab tackle and go. I created a logo for a t shirt some time ago that stated " The quickest way to a woman's heart is through her tackle box" The picture had a tackle box, reel and rod, laying on a rock beside the river. Sold like crazy. They did not believe there were enough women anglers out there to earn a profit. I laughed all the way to the bank.

    That is why I said to drop a fish in each hole before you plant the tree. A good day fishing would be far better than doing nothing. Would it not be a joy to end one and begin another?

    Hello Zenphamy,
    Not a bad life either. No bureaucrats breathing down your neck. Their breath is just more pollution.
    Regards,
    O.A.
