If one of these movements succeeds the conversation in this country may change.

Yes, but too much news coverage implies that these people are nutty, uneducated farmers and ranchers.

So it's hard to get an honest debate going. IMO

Even if new states are created, they would still have to contend with the same overgrown blob of a federal government. If we could start a separate country, that would be worth getting excited about.

I agree. I don't see the federal congress approving it, but it's in the Constitution so I want to see their rational reasoning for denying the will of the people.

From the article: >>"If you mention the word "secession" most people think of the South during the Civil War. But today, a new movement is gaining steam because of frustration over a growing, out-of-control federal government."<<

I think the rural/urban divide is more about an out-of-control progressive/socialist state government. The state may be taking it's marching orders from the guidance of the elected in the federal government or the elite of their own party, but it's much more about the 10th Amendment - 'The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, OR TO THE PEOPLE.'

In states such as CO, the rural citizens are seeing their state government elections being overwhelmed by the urban progressives and see their rights attacked by both the state and federal. I agree that should it succeed, it will permanently alter the country.

    Excellent find.

It's a huge hurdle to jump, but it is gaining in interest with people in the rural areas that are unrepresented. Good article.
