3D printed revolver

I wonder how many rounds one can put through this before the cylinder or barrel fails. I'd also note that I sure wouldn't try a larger caliber (requiring a more powerful load)...

Right now it is obtaining high strength plastics on a spool and the high temperatures in the printer head. You can buy those high strength plastics on the internet in block, sheet, round and bar forms. If someone could come up with a minature extrusion head then you could purchase hi-strength plastic in pellet form which could even take rifling without deformation. Until that time .22 caliber rounds is the only ammo that can be fired from current 3D plastic guns.

Enough to get the job done. the problem would be the silencer unless the Russian gasket system was incorporated somehow. For a silenced revolver the answer is the old tunnel rat design using a silenced round. It would want a close inspection when reloading but a SWAG would be at least five reloads or switch to the LR or Short round. Pistols aren't for long distanced anyway. Up close and personal is best.

Question does downloading the plan constitute an offense to anybody but Obama and the baby burners?

They have sure taken steps to attempt to criminalize the distribution of those plans.

No wonder they're working so hard to get rid of those silly bills of rights - especially the ones espousing the antiquated and unnecessary freedoms of speech and the press...

No one who is a right-thinking and correctly-indoctrinated subject of the People's Free Republic of America would either dare challenge such a just and perfect command by distributing such plans freely, or even have a desire to own such an evil and nasty device capable of defending ones self against the rightful punishment of their betters, or the agents they employ and empower.

Could you imagine how devastating it would be if those that have anointed themselves as our rightful masters, owners, and rulers could somehow be held accountable?? The horrors!!!

I really don't understand what the big deal is about a 3D printed gun......Firearms are easy to get hold of. Even in Europe where they have ridiculous gun laws. Think the gun laws in Paris did any good???? If you still hang on to the notion that we need something like this to get around the gun laws ask yourself this...Drugs are illegal....can you get them????

I wonder if this technology will lead to more acceptance of gun rights because it's hard to enforce laws opposed to citizens keeping guns. It could be kind-of like how we accept recording radio/TV programming partly because it's easy and hard to stop.

OTOH, I wonder if efforts to stop even distribution of "plans" or "instructions" for guns will lead to the gov't trying to stop even discussions about guns that at all seem like planning or instructing.

One can hope it leads to greater accessibility and that that in and of itself drives gun laws back towards the original Founders' intent, absolutely.

As to the second, that is already happening as the Bureau of Tobacco and Firearms has gone after people for posting the plans and download files.

It's a tug-of-war. I'm keeping an eye on it. An accident of history led prohibition to take us from no drug prohibition to a veritable war on citizens who use drugs. Accidents of history spared alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine from the madness.

Little things that happen today could affect how closely we follow the Founders' intent for the next 100 years.

          wow that got deleted fast....

without the cite and source this time... the plans and the files are for the most part contained in downloadable documents released from security clearances and made available to the public by none other than the US Governrment itself; cui Bono. Either Frankford Arsenal or the US Government Printing office.

formerly classified Secret they went to Confidential and FOUO for official use only to unclassified in the late 1900s.

And they are going to hassle people for what the government is selling?

This release for non government use was accomplished prior to the Oklahoma City bombing and that device was included in the manual. Since McVeigh never made it to Special Forces I doubt he got it that way.

          topics however include IEDs

If they want me my copy which used to reside in my uniform spocket is between my ears but they are going to have to show need to know. I still consider it classified but after thirty years on the open market .....who knows? the memory dims and I'm no James Bond. come to think of it neither is Sean Connery.

Why publish these half baked new designs? If they have a programmable machine that flexible, why not just duplicate all the parts (or all except the lower receiver) of some existing weapon that has been around for enough years to be out of patent protection?

I just do not see how it is physically possible to
print and thereby make a physical object, such as
a gun. I have heard of this before, but I don't un-
    derstand how it is possible.

Looks as if it would go through an airport with alacrity. No one has ever figured out all of the side-effects of new technology until they become a reality.

I think the article points out that the gun design incorporates two pieces of metal - one in the handle to conform to law and be detectable by airport security, the second being the firing pin. It would be an interesting test to see if it would pass through sans the handle inset.

Now I know what to do should extended jail time (or worse) force me to reveal where I hid my guns.
Maybe I should stock up on 22 longs since I only have a pair of 9mms and a shotgun.
    Whoa! New thought.
Looters without fear of armed citizens would have already taken my PC and everything else.
That's what will happen here in the Birmingham area.
I'd likely be safer from anal rape with close-lipped gun owners in jail than in my own house.
