I do not disagree. I am as surprised as you are. I think we are having a misunderstanding. All I am trying to say, apparently very badly, is that they are not producing enough food or other products to trade for food and using technology to change their paradigm, that they continue the cycle of reproducing, living at subsistence level by this means, generation after generation. Of course cheap child labor can't compete with technology. They continue to reproduce but don't produce excess. I don't mean just food. Would they not have a better life if they had to feed fewer mouths and adopted other methods of security? I am not suggesting they are simply breeding themselves into poverty... I think I have just been unclear... I have examined the above and I’m in agreement with the study you cited.

In wealthier countries people have fewer babies, and when a cage is filled with too many rats they stop reproducing and eat one another... A natural equilibrium is maintained. The people who reproduce in excess of their ability to feed themselves must change their security plan or nature will maintain the status quo...

lol. I cannot believe you and I are going to disagree. The reality is, having children is a social security net and cheap labor. The countries living on the edge of starvation are the countries that tend to have highest birth rates.
In wealthier countries, people don't need their children to be their labor and children are not the most effective way of securing survival in old age. Therefore, birth rates are lower. As well, if pursuing wealth is easier, people tend to put off starting families. The areas which most need food in this world are run by despotic governments and the western world's "aid" keeps those govts rich and happy and powerful. Let them eat 3D food

I hope the tech turns out to be more reliable than the 3-D printers I am familiar with. They are extremely tempermental and always breaking down. One question: In the present, the people who need the food the most are not the sharpest tools in the shed since they reproduce better than they farm; so who will have control of the machine and thus the food supply once they become dependent? You see, it could become a ticket, to state-sponsored dependency... We must be ever vigilant.
