World Indigenous Games

The World Indigenous Games is on the one hand a harmless cultural celebration and on the other the celebration of primitivism. Spear throwing and headdresses make for a spectacle, but when accompanied by raucous chants against a hosting government, the true nature of the event begins to unfold. The celebration of cultural heritage is not equivalent to the denouncement of the modernization, capitalism, or objective law. It is important to note that the World Indigenous Games involved chanting slogans against the Brazilian government.

Rand followers have been accused of enshrining technological advancement at the cost of moral values. What moral values? The movement toward primitivism a protest against reason. We have been taught in public schools that the native way of life is as much as alternative to that of the modern technological society. At what cost?

It is regrettable and horrific that natives died of disease to which there was little immune resistance. But to then denounce the civilization that invented penicillin? It is regrettable that battles between the settlers and the natives resulted in loss of life. But then to hold fast to a racial view of history?

The World Indigenous Games can be a fun and educational event for both "indigenous" and non-indigenous peoples. But when accompanied by protests against a sovereign government, the event takes on the rebellion against "modernization" (i.e. capitalism and objective law). This can only lead to further degradation to tribal law and the return of the primitive.

Always strikes me as a little disingenuous when "Native Americans" piss and moan about their treatment by the "White Man" when they were conquered by him. The Natives that were here when the Evil White Man arrived had conquered the previous lot of natives that were there before they arrived. Certainly a group did at one time arrive from Asia through Alaska...but a succession of civilizations rose and were conquered by later "Native" people. Those conquerors did not set up special reserves and reservations and allow the conquered to have casinos and welfare.....They murdered the men raped the women and enslaved the children. So what did the white man do that was so different? If they want to feel better, gain comfort in the knowledge that it will one day happen the the white man....We are currently committing self genocide by allowing unfettered immigration in to Europe and the USA from The middle east and Central America respectively. This is exactly the same thing that defeated the Roman empire.....it is just that Rome lasted over 1,000 years....I don't think western Europe and America specifically will last so long.

As someone who does broadsword fighting and jousting as hobbies, I cannot complain about other people being fascinated with older forms of sports or technology. Technology? Well, yes, I also do spinning (drop spindle) and metalwork. I would love to learn more flint knapping; primitive fire-starting is a hoot, but I am not very good at it...must learn more.

What is the difference? I have no agenda other than having fun. I always love the tales of the Knights of the Round table, and being able to play in a sub-culture that remembers honor and chivalry (without including sexism, racism, religious persecution or the Bubonic Plague) is a great vacation.

So bravo for ancient sports, but let's do without the political agenda.

As a tribute to the indigenous people, the games should be run without using any invention of the disgusting white race.
Coordination by smoke signal. No travel above the level of feet and riding a beast. No modern fabrics. No participant who has been vaccinated or treated with antibiotics. Enough said. Ignorant savages.

broskjold22, if those were the only serious reasons to object to primitivism, I'd be the first to say, leave those people alone and let them live the way they want to.

The bigger problem with them is, in terms of the modern world order, those places are a power vacuum and nature abhors that. So the primitive country winds up becoming a haven for bad guys who prey on the rich countries (like the pirates in Somalia, or the terrorists in various Muslim countries).

In my view that is good cause to invade and conquer places like that, and the only objections to doing so should be practical ones if they apply.

I whole heartedly agree with the commentary.

I am tired of the ole rhetoric of they were here first...it's in the past, so get over it; and to the larger issue, why would one want to leave others of the same species behind, ignorant of civilization, (such as it is), much less celebrate one's pagan, bicameral ways. If that was our way through out history...very few of us would have reached consciousness much less achieved civilization.
Mankind achieved it's status through mutuality for those outside the family unit...it wouldn't have worked any other way.

you made an interesting connection in my mind, b22:::
the advance of western europeans across the north american
    continent resembles the exercise of eminent domain;;;
each intended/intends to improve the use of the land for
humans as they should live. . sorta. -- j

If I may be so bold and politically incorrect, lets host a World Ingenious Games in the Gulch, and anyone is eligible.

Oh, sorry, that would be the evil free market at work.

Pretty much all team sports are indigenous. This is illustrated by baseball and football in the USA, hockey in Canada, soccer in Europe, etc. They spill over from the country of origin, but their heritage is easy to detect. Sports are a way to release stress, and an expression of patriotism, but nevertheless they are primitive in their expressions of loyalty. As the 20th century progressed into the 21st, we see the tendency of increased violence, to the point where the more violent the game the more popular it becomes. It will be interesting to see which country will be next to host such games, if they are going to be subject to such anti-government rhetoric.
Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice...
