This is Grover Cleveland's Second Inaugural Address. Cleveland was a "bourbon Democrat", but what is interesting to note, he railed AGAINST what he termed "government paternalism" - ie the welfare state! He also argued for a stable currency.

Now that's the kind of Democrat I could get behind!

Today that speech would have been hid from the citizens because of entities that be. Lame stream media types like cockroaches hide in every nook and cranny looking for any trash they can spew. Those men back then I do agree were great orators and could capture an audience to no bounds. Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison to name a few. Today with the great inventions not with standing have given another breed of men to run our Constitution into the ground. Will there ever be more men as these? Do not hold your breath, but I still pray.

The presidents of the middle and late 1800 were orators. They knew how to speak , coin a phrase and bring life to the speech. the had to, there speeches were printed in the news papers and in magazines. there was no TV or Radio to carry the spoken word across the country. It was printed and then read by the people not privileged to hear it in person.
That takes a lot of skill.
