I know just what you mean. Starting today, there will be a generation of baseball fans that has no firsthand knowledge of Yogi Berra. I felt the same way the day that Casey Stengal passed to the Celestial Ballpark. The thought fills me with melancholy.

Salty: Thank you for sharing this.
A fine player indeed of the game as well as his life and a real gentleman (stated by Suzanne)) par excellence.

Ended up doing what I usually in those down moments of life. Pulled out one of Yogi's books. I gave myself a minus one this type of post deserves more respect.

Many who know more about baseball than I ever will have and will laud Yogi Berra. But to me, I will give him the highest compliment that I know. I reserve it only for the best.
    He was a good man.

One of the benefits of growing up in Brooklyn NY was to believe the world series always took place here. As a result I had the pleasure of seeing Yogi as well as all of the other Yankees at either Yankee Stadium or Ebbets Field as of course the Dodgers and Giants. Baseball was a better spectator sport back then. I did see him hit many home runs.We often argued who was better Yogi or Roy C. I believe they were equal. They had personality.

As a life long Detroit Tiger fan, I nevertheless liked Yogi. The truest compliment that I can pay to any man is to call him a gentleman. That was what Yogi Berra was. Have fun playing baseball in heaven, Yogi.

One of Yogi's great lines applies today, "Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours."

It may not be over until it's over. Well, now it's over. All time great baseball producer and philosopher Yogi Berra ceased to self-generate a sufficient number of self-sustaining actions last night.
