I think it could be done. Though unfortunately in a very secretive fashion.

    Thanks for posting your question!
As I think about it more, setting up a dedicated online "shop" or meeting place creates a visible and large target for the status quo forces to attack. Or infiltrate. Think Napster and Silicon Road. So what if instead you just asked an ad-hoc question here for a specific item you either want to get rid of or obtain? Then wait for someone in particular to respond and try to work out a mutually beneficial trade from there.
Maybe there is a tag or keyword to put in the post so these types of "questions" can be found rather easily as a group. But still more low key.
Here is the cross link if anyone is curious where the idea started:

Do you mean a REAL swap shop? So many of
these responses seem to be jokes about some-
thing else.--It might be a good idea, if one person
has, for instance, an autoharp he might be willing
to swap for a radio, or something like that.

    Bad plan, sorry.

These days, the US will now demand we sign a trade treaty which maintains US protection tariffs against our goods, while allowing the US full and unfettered access to our markets.

And, it will allow the US to sue all of us on the island if we don't choose to buy enough US goods, and allow the US to send in massive crews to dig up the whole island and its beaches in search of oil and minerals.

Equal value wouldn't matter. But a "like kind exchange" (IRC Sec. 1031), if done right, allows only the difference in price to be taxable. Talk to a good tax advisor if you want to do one so that it will pass muster -- they get audited frequently.

This was part of the advice that got Irwin Schiff sent to prison for 15+ years for tax fraud. I believe he gets out sometime this year or next.

Barter is the natural free market. A trade of something of value for something else of value is simply no ones business but the two participants. The IRS can pack sand.(edited for an afterthought) Or, considering the amount of rain we`ve gotten in 4 weeks, the IRS can pack mud.

Fortunately, their enforcement has never held a candle to the effectiveness of their harassment... SO the probability of being caught for violation is minuscule to the likelihood of stalked and smeared!!!! I say go for it, just don't identify yourself as anything but a thieving Democrat.

It's really quite simple. Use pre '64 US silver as a basis of trade. Whatever gains there may be, just remit with FRNs. They use smoke & mirrors, why shouldn't we?

Ironically, General Jack D. Ripper should have been concerned about fluoridation of water. Fluoride ion is a neurotoxin. The therapeutic/toxic ratio for fluoride ion is a matter of rather sharp dispute. Note also: "Foreign substances introduced...without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice."

It sounds like a great idea, but doing this type of exchange on an open forum would be watched and taxed by the IRS.

Start by developing technology to make nuclear bombs easily. Then let the USA find out, and collect billions to "stop developing the technology". Works for North Korea and Iran for sure.

Does the IRS barter thing apply if you exchange things of equal value?

Probably get away with it...once. When it becomes once a week or month, they've got you.
