Making up for lost time

Hi there, I'm Danielle. I still remember the day I bought my copy of AS-- walked into a used bookstore in Boulder, CO, and when I put my purchase on the counter (AS and Oliver Twist) the cashier thought it was such a hilarious combination that he called the manager over to see. I started reading AS as soon as I walked out of that store.

That was a little over a year ago, and the book changed my life (not a unique experience here, it seems). Rand explained concepts I've believed and struggled with, mainly the idea of valuing the self over others, and loving a person for his/her highest values. I'm 25, and I wish someone had shown me this long ago. Or at least that I'd been stronger and not tried to accept the moochers' idea of self-sacrificing morality.

But hey, I'm moving forward and making up for lost time. Excited to learn from and discuss with everyone here!

    Short answers: Hard. and No. I had a job to pay rent, but no life. Or at least no stereotypical college life-- I just didn't see the point of partying. So I read a lot, watched movies, and took photos. If you have friends in your classes it's much easier because you can make a study group and then transition easily between homework and hanging out. I worked a life into my schoolwork by going on short study abroad trips and taking philosophy and literature classes.

    hi capitalist. good to see you too. I read your post about engineering school - I got my degree in engineering physics so we have some similarities there as well. just make sure to perfect your "that's what she said" and you'll do fine. ;)

    Well, it's good to see young people like you. I'm 20 and it's hard to find somebody are age to talk to about capitalism ideas or that even understands it. lol

    I work for a school....I'm phasing it out too. It's an intricate process, but I'm excited to get it done.

    thanks! yeah, actually moved to Denver last year. slowly working towards a new job, while phasing out my old, government, one. * acknowledges any looks of shock or disgust*

    You've got no problems. I'm 40 & wish I'd read the book 25 years ago. I've suffered the moochers' morality for too long. :)
