I think this should be set up like a playoff system, one on one debates with the winners going on to face winners and losers going on to face losers. Survivor from the losers bracket gets another chance at the winners. Give a lot of exposure to every candidate (and their solutions) and call all of them on the carpet for every inconsistency. Even better, include more candidates, and pit the top poll candidate against the bottom. Expose how stupid the front runners are! The more debates the better.
The format of this "debate" is a waste of time.

The hell with debates. We should do like on "The Apprentice". Each of the candidates should run a hot dog stand for a month. Anyone who loses money get's knocked out of the race.

The ones who can profitably run a hot dog stand advance to the next challenge. If no one advances, we get a new set of candidates.

Don't limit it to hot dogs. Let the candidates choose their business, too, WS. Might be even more revealing.

The reason I picked a hot dog stand is that it's deceptively hard. You have a low profit margin, can't raise prices much, have to watch labor and supply costs. Some businesses are more forgiving.

Yes, I recognized that in your business selection. Not much room to maneuver or develop innovative solutions though, other than frilly marketing ploys. Perhaps easier to understand for the electorate, however.

yes, people have a "hot dog" stand on every corner where I live- and no one much gets ahead-I'd rather see a contest that demonstrates they get how wealth is created and what ends up creating the most jobs-certainly not how to control labor costs. Living within your budget is important but bean counters do not usually create disruptive inventions and increase wealth

The most popular candidates would draw the most hotdog customers, who'd actually be dropping n for a chat.
"The Donald Hotdog" would likely draw the most customers.
Solution? Each hotdog stand does not bear the candidate's name, the candidate is not even there and the candidate would have to chose someone good at selling hotdogs.

the "debate" is history now, at 2:27 a.m., and the pundits are busy.
Rush spent some time yesterday, Thursday, examining the
possibility that some of the contenders had been instructed to
"Take Trump Out." . I didn't see anything from them which
looked like an effort to do that. . Donald just hurt himself
with a couple of things. . he'll stick around for awhile, I bet....... -- j

Rand Paul might be the one who was instructed to "take Trump out". He certainly tried twice early. He scored some points there, but the moderators definitely forced Trump to deal with his contradictions.

Would someone mind posting the names? The bandwidth here doesn't allow the source above and it's inevitable path of go here go there to say much except Bush, Perry, and Trump....seven others?

With that much information it's No, No, No and probably No times seven.

Trouble is they are all Republicans and as i keep asking for WHAT do we need lickspittle lapdogs when we could just go to the Democrats straight away?

That makes it No, no no and YUCK NO!

I want to hear Trump tell it like it is. The others really just spout politically correct talking points. If our new president does nothing but speak whats on his mind, I will vote for him gladly. I hate the curtains Hillary hides behind, as does Obama, and really all the rest but a VERY few. We need one of the truth speakers to tell us when the emperor has no clothes !!

I think it's refreshing. I think he'd be a disaster as a President. He'll raise taxes to "balance" the budget. Then he'll push through huge trade embargoes leveled at Japan and China. One hope is he will surround himself with other strong leaders to get stuff done-including the military. MOstly, I think what will happen is backdoor meetings with Bush and Hillary. Hillary will pay him to run on a third ticket and Bush will pay him not to. or there will be a scandal. Did you see already what's happening in Rand Paul's camp?

The problem is that if the budget isnt balanced, our dollar will become worthless. If taxes are raised to pay for all these ridiculous welfare programs, there is greater chance that people will not want them anymore (especially those who have to pay). I dont know about the trade embargo idea. He has said they manipulate their currency to make chinese stuff cheap (which it is). The problem China has is that they are stupid and are taking our shrinking dollars. One day we will put capital controls on the use of those dollars here in the usa and the chinese will be screwed by their own stupidity. I think Trump is encouraged by the support he is getting and wouldnt take cash from Hillary or Bush to screw his chances. Hillary is a non event now- she will be upstaged by Biden on the Demo ticket.

Its a waste of time and money to run Objectivist candidates in this environment. Half the country, if not more, is made up of moochers already. It will take a collapse (as it did in Atlas Shrugged) before people change

I disagree. If say 15% of any electorate goes for the candidate-those are real numbers to not be avoided by the winning candidate. The winner may just address those constituents in their policy making. It happened with Perot, and some of it has happened because of Paul. I do think the influence shows up more at the state level and not the national level.

We need to concentrate on the philosophical basis of freedom for once (the founding fathers DIDNT do this as they just tried to uproot and prevent the English rule from continuing).

I would love to vote for someone too, but I think the best we could get now is someone who at least tells it like it is. Imagine is Snowden was one of the advisors !! How about Trump as president and Mark Cuban as VP. Not a bad team.

Any team with Trump is a bad team.
1 imo, Trump is not wise; he is headstrong and will be foolish unless his own wealth is concerned, and then he will shove the risk on to someone inferior. imo, Trump thinks the people are all inferior to himself, so the people will get the shaft.
            2. In a Trump administration no one else gets any input but Trump. Only Trump knows best, and that decision process is dealt with in 1 above.
Just my opinion, but there are no real counterbalances in our government to restrain Trump. Trump is not Rearden. Trump has exhibited no significant ethics or morals.
I wouldn't trust him in any position of importance unless he could be restrained from considering his personal interests above the interests of liberty for the sovereign people. In this respect he is no better than any other politician.
He should not go on to the next program.

I totally agree. He failed in tonight's debate too. He was thin skinned and on the defensive most of the time. But to be fair, the questions fired at just him were not fair either.

I agree. They asked Trump how he would handle "war on women" attacks. I guess they were trying to get him to go off. The "how would you handle the attack" frame tries to force him to answer as if he accepts the premise.

The entire "debate" is just a circus of distraction, imo. There is nothing of consequence in its design to be "debated". It's like an episode of Morton Downey and it is designed to avoid any discussion of substance. The participants talk in sound bites. Instead of describing real solutions and rational actions they will take if elected they just criticise Obama (and the other candidates who hugged him), as if that solves anything.
Its the tax money of the people that usually pays for these circuses. The GOP and Dem parties should be the slaves to this process, not the masters.

Well, Trump as a foil against the congress would not be bad. He couldnt get much done without the congress and the courts agreeing. We need someone who stands up for us citizens and tells it like it is. Obama's advisors are almost all idiots as it is. Bush was no better. Trump's wouldnt be idiots. If he did only the speaking out thing, I would be happy. Right now, we are being manipulated big time by lies and half truths for the advantage of the crony capitalists. Trump already made his money. It will be very expensive for him to be president, as it will take a lot of time and effort from his other endeavors. He is getting older and doesnt need money. He isnt a philosophy student unlike Obama (socialism), but we need the honesty out there for once.

The honesty, imo, wouldn't come from Trump. Just my opinion. Another 4 years of increasing government size and power comes with Trump. I don't think he would have any interest in being POTUS if it wasn't profitable (in power) to Trump. Oracist and others have increased the power of the office through executive orders (blatantly unethical use of them) and that is a plum for Trump. There is no chance that Trump woould dial back the power and every likelyhood that Trump would expand them and use them unwisely for liberty. He has no clue of how to run a country; its all about ego and power. The sovereign people's rights aren't even a consideration. Handing the power of the US military and government to Trump is a red flag to a bull. He has used the law and the government repeatedly in the past for personal gain, not a problem for a businessman, but a big problem for liberty in a POTUS. Again, just my opinion based on observation of his actions through his career.

I dont want any of those things you mention either. But look at the other candidates. Hillary would be a disaster and you would never actually find out what she did until it was done and done badly. Biden scares me for some reason I cant explain. The repub candidates are either grossly religious, or pandering politicians (except perhaps for Rand Paul or Ron Paul who would never actually win, or the black dude whose name escapes me at the moment). I would vote for Joan Rivers if she were still alive- SHE would definitely tell it like it is, but unlikely to even want to run OR win. I dont think Trump would win in the end anyway- the media hates him, but its definitely refreshing to hear him tell us the straight scoop

I can tell you why Biden scares me. He's an idiot with a brain the size of a pencil eraser. The name of the black dude is Dr. Ben Carson. He's my favorite in a field of candidates who have no backbone. So do I want Trump to be president? No, But he is refreshing.

Ben Carson looked more presidential than any other candidate, but that isn't an important qualification. Candidates should be required to put forth a complete business plan for their presidency in order to get on the stage, and the contents of those business plans should be a substantial part of the discussion. I still think the debates should be one on one, head to head double elimination with ad hominem attacks banned with two infractions causing forfeiture.

All capitalist have cronies in government. That's because capitalism has never been unfettered. The advantage however is equally shared between the statists and the corporatists in the socialist world along with union leaders. The traditional triumverate of leftist fascist socialist liberalism among other names. Short version. Secular Progressives.

You recall from AS the reluctance to name something and call it what it is? Then ask who is John Galt? He was the man who had no reluctance and didn't accept 'flags' but took them as a badge o honor..

As far as Trump is concerned. He is a friend of many of us and Mr. Trump, Mr. Bush, and all the rest of the annointed of aristocracy you are no John Galt. As lapdogs of the left you are not fit to rule

This should be entertaining, and the list should shrink down. I do like the idea of a non-political winning the Presidency. I want to see more of Carly, she has good business sense and is just as good as these others. Heck look what John Galt did.

Not TV in almost twenty years. Can't say I miss it.I was up in Tucson a few months ago and noted another indicator of the good life while checking out at the supermarket. Not one face or name on the tabloids held any meaning. At the motel I asked about good AC. They added TV with remote. "I'd rather have two AC units."

If you can't live in the Gulch live life as IF you were in the Gulch.

Flip side. Did the taxes and they went in on April 2nd. Expected a refund. Nothing by May nothing by June 1st. My sister found a website IRS runs for checking on such things which said I owed a hair over a hundred. No explanation. Still no notification. Sent it in. Check deposited on July 16th finally a letter this last Monday. I owe seventy four cents late fee. Went out yesterday. one check for 74 cents. I'm betting it will deposited by September with no explanation.

Next year turbo tax. Then like television I won't have to bother. The trick is the sister unit's address for all that garbage and she does the paper work or is it cyber work. I don't send them a card number though. They get a check from a bank with one checking account and no savings accounts. I use it for two purposes. Paying seventy five cents to the IRS and Amazon.

Life gets an better I'll have to take up two kinds of fishing As for Baier, Kelly and Wallace? Anything else would be too much information.

The sister unit sent in my voter registration renewal whatever too. But until they have none of the above I doubt I'll need it. I did register as Independent Constitutionalist as far as I know I'm the only member. Received a letter from one of the two left wing parties I forget was it Republican or Democrat. That was the last time had a chance to mark it myself. I wrote in Boortz name. Started getting mail. My sister got curious. Seems winner takes all meant I had been sold to the dark side. More garbage.

I was, selected for jury duty but she explained I was half way to Tonga (at the time) or was it Easter Island she didn't think I'd get the message in time. Must be true it was six months later.

I thought to have her mark No on all the tax levy increases but I think that's illegal. Except in Oregon. We're in Florida. But used to be in Oregon. They are now sending ballots out to old addresses that haven't recently voted or registered. Instead she inserts a card that says None of The Above and No on all tax increases. stamped with my name and mails it back.

She pays the property tax so no one asks.

Everything else goes in the garbage.

            Where it belongs.

            Life is sweet

Living as IF I was in the Gulch.

Well you take it down tie it on the roof and don't forget a float vest....go find the nearest lake. Some of the best sail sailors I know started on that sort of rig. Mine was a Sunfish. Similar rig. Then you move up a bit. Lido is good choice still. One day you say wonder what that ocean stuff is all about? Draw a line to the nearest ocean and go find out. Do NOT buy the boat of your dreams first. Go find out. If the bug bites then you get more serious. One day you say 'to hell with mowing the lawn and trying to find out where the paper boy did not did not deliver. 'Papers are much the same each day except for the date and the name sin the obituaries.' Zappa didn't say that. I did. ' Eventually you find out Sun sets on the lake and where ever are infinitely more important and far more valuable than TV. I don't care how many buttons Megan and Katie leave undone. And that states the main reason for television. Pretty soon your mind and your life is not in a rut but in a gulch.
