    I'll put it simply
No military Power = No Freedom
If you do not have military power, the first nation or group that comes along with military power makes you there vassal state or worse their slaves. Prime example ROME. Another that comes to mind is England and her colonial empire from the Americas to India and China.
There are other examples too numerous to mention, but I think my point is made.

There is a lot of truth in this article, but at the same time it is an obvious truth that should be evident to everyone. No, a military does not give freedom to anyone.

A strong military is necessary to maintain a free nation. The Laoning and the Chengdu J-20 were not created for a fishing expedition. The Chinese will continue to build and will continue the mass consumption of their resources without much thought to alternative ideas and means. Meanwhile with as much of our own resources that we have protected we will continue to look more and more appealing to them.

There is a great threat to our liberty from inside our own country, but at the same time we cannot afford to underestimate the threat from the outside.
